This is long drawn out story, so bear with me. I've owned my MK1 1997 Scudo for 20 odd years and for the past 8 years its sat on my drive. Originally it was a work horse for my electrical contracting business so its had light use throughout its life and had everything done to it as required as the years rolled by, including regular servicing and maintance. Just after i took it off the road i fitted new factory steel wheels and tyres, new clutch, exhaust and oil sump to name but a few. its been Lanoguarded annually as its festered every winter.  Originally the plan was to convert it to a day van which i started a few years ago. Its had the original front seat and bench seat replaced with Peugeot captains swivel seats, a retrimmed taxi bulkhead with spotlighting along with sound proofing and insulation. So i thought i'd get back to the project and asked a mobile mechanic to give it a pre MOT once over. Heres his list.

Coolant refill and check it would be £75 (additional work may be required)
Washer jet in block £0
Power steering pipe £164.99
Drive shaft oil seal £63.66 (G-box oil £30.49)
Front to rear brake pipes £127.95
Front pads and discs £147.57
Clean adjust brakes £50
Brake pressure comp £158.89 (may require additional parts)
OSF Brake pipe £50
OSF Brake flexi £49.99
OSF Track rod end £69.99

My dillema is, what to do next? Sell ot or scrap it?

The sills (inner and outer) and the subframe are sound as it was regulary cleaned underneath during its working life. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

Do any of you folks know where i can purchase new arch liners for a Mk1? Can only see MK2 and onwards online. Tried the scrappys but they're knackered or missing!

Thanks

Yes,i've been priming it with no success. Last weekend i removed the fuel filter and let the van sit for a week. Its now starting to splutter and almost starting!? Fuel blockage, crap in the system? What do we think guys?

Hi,

Van has sat on drive for around 5/6 years. Every month i start it, roll forward and let engine reach temperature. Last weekend i did the usual. Started first turn of the key and after switching off the ignition and leaving it an hour it wont start at all?? Dash lighting up as it should, battery is good, starter motor is doing its thing but the engine isnt firing up. I'm at a loss as where to start. Anyone out there had a similar experience or know what to check? I'm not mechanically minded so i'm pretty clueless with these issue to be honest! This is the first time in 22 years that i've never been able to start the blinking thing lol. Advice would be appreciated guys. Cheers

Thanks for that Vaz. Hmmm, i'll check the near side sill for drain holes, you might be right as the nearside isnt showing similar signs. The van hasn't covered any miles since its been off the road 3 and a half years ago so it may be condensation/dampness because its been sitting for a long time. Seems like its not just me then. I don't know about you but i get quite obsessive about getting to the bottom of these little niggles. My aim is to rectify matters or i'l be needing a new sill(s).

Hi guys,

Noticed small blisters of paint on off side sill holding tiny amounts of water. I treated the sills last year and everything is still holding up great except this small area. The vehicle has been sitting so i'm wondering if its coming through the holes in the roof where the roof rack is mounted? Anyone else have this issue or know how to solve the mystery?

The van has been off the road for 3 years. Brakes are pretty much stripped down and need replaced, thats why im needing a mobile mechanic. The rears seized up and failed the MOT. Appreciate the feedback guys.

That's a nice interior - you have an eye for keeping it looking tidy. I keep wanting to reline my headliner, but it's all a matter of having the time. I especially like your rear speakers.

I too have Synergie swivel seats - they're a god send as they open up so much space.

Thanks. I'm thinking an ice box between the 2 front seats. That space needs to be used!

The seats are out of one of these Griffin. Straight swap with no modifications as its the same floor pan.

Finally got the captains chairs in and relined the old taxi rear headliner. Removed front headliner and re-trimmed to match. Looks almost factory to me!

The spot lights are fantastic and ive got a head unit with remote so can control the music from the rear.

Just the rear wheel arch plastics to re-trim and the floor to do next...stay tuned.

New material. It was beyond cleaning. I'm chuffed with the results and the sound deadening  flash band makes a big difference.

Sides and front headllining tomorrow!

I'll post pics once complete

Just used the original speaker clips. I've realised I'm in the wrong section for this type of post. What's the easiest way to share pics? Finding it a bit of a faff tbh

And so it begins...my retired works van. Worked hard and has been a fantastic van for last 20 years but now being converted for a bit of fun in Spring!

Yes, they look mint. Highly recommend doing it. I now always look at most Scudo's sills and most if not all have the same area of corrosion. I know, very sad lol.

#25 Re: Maintenance » MOT » 2018-12-13 08:37:44

Took about 4 hours in total including prepping and drying times between prep. A second coat is advised but once the prep is done its easy. I found the whole process quite satisfying to be honest. I tackled under the rear floor pan where the spare wheel sits. You could now eat your tea off it!
