Indicator stalk

The left indicator switch has developed a fault where most of time I get fast relay swiching but no ondicator. Pushing the stalk down hard can get it to work but it seems to be getting worse.
Any ideas?

I had same problem here's link

Or cut to the chase.... link to web page...... http://philsworkbench.blogspot.co.uk/20 … epair.html
I used and followed  their lead at cleaning the contacts inside the stalk
(be careful, when I opened mine there was an explosion of springs)

All working fine since cleaned
(but I did take it apart a second time to figure out where the extra spring I had came from sad )

Ah, I did see that, but didn't look to far since he a different problem. When I get home I'll have a bash with some electrical switch cleaner and see if that works. Thanks

Re: Indicator stalk

The fear of springs flying is what made me go to the scrap yard for another. Blow dust out with a tin of compressed air it was fine. Had a few pinging springs when taking motorbike switchgear apart to clean. Never again, piddly wee things  big_smile

There was no mention of a jack in the box surprise on that web page iirc (who's lead) I was following and by then I was sort of committed.........
to a least get something to flash  angel

If mine starts to act up again I'll most likely replace it I think, But it's been a reasonable fix over the last year and has worked fine touch wood and continues to just as it should...

Did take stalk apart second time as the extra spring I ended up with seems too not only tension the main beam action it must put pressure on contact to make a good contact....if that makes sense............

Indicator stalks out the Dealer are Pricey...... and the new one I bought on eBay never ever arrived so can't comment on those ones............

Don't know if it's my van or age (facelift.. ETC.)but the brand name on it is Jaeger  where as what I came across at breakers were either Valeo  or no brand name on them.......Or that coms 2000 (Where both stalks are as one and steering wheel needs taken off I think)..........

Re: Indicator stalk

Took the stalk apart today, and there was black grease and grit on the contacts, and the sprung copper contact.
Cleaned it all off with IPA and then sprayed with Servisol Super 10. A bit tricky to get back together because you need to push some of the sprung parts with a screwdriver while trying to push the housing back together. But its doable and its fairly obvious where the springs etc go.
Now back in the van working correctly again.
