So the red and black wires. Can i extend them and straight to battery cutting the live and sticking in an ON/OFF rocker switch. Going through my fusebox off course.

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

I'm no electrician by a longshot but I don't see why not - so doing away with the IR and remote etc? I think probably would be fine - you can get single colour white or warm white or something ones If you don't want to bother with the colours, there are simpler ones. My lights are switched too via the fusebox/control panel switches. then also have an on/off on the IR remote. So I think when I'm out and about i'll have them switched on at the switch then maybe put the remote on the other side of the van so i can switch on/off from the other areas too maybe.

Im not a great Amazon fan, prefer ebay and i can get the same as you for around the same money. Now although its cheap but also for me a gimmick the will wear off very fast and i will leave it on ambient white so for a few quid less i may as well just buy ambient white strips and plumb them in to keep things simple.

Yeah you're probably right to do so, it isn't the most functional feature i'll admit haha. Well if ever I want to develop any film in my van and am short of a dark room I could use my red lights.

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

Easy now. Been a while, I've been busy with life etc. and not logged in for a while here! The van progress has somewhat slowed over the last few months. I've recently regained some motivation to get it ready for summer! Definitely picking up momentum again now. Also, with the van getting nearer to a state of readiness, i've been taking it on some trips and test runs to see how it performs 'in the field' so to speak. It gives me a chance to see what works and what doesn't and highlights what is yet to be done to ensure it performs as intended and has the functionality I want.

The passenger side sliding door lock wasn't working so I had the trim panel off to check that out, Pic below if anyone wants a good look at what's behind there. As you can see there is a hook loose which was an easy fix, central locking restored:

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-00_54_57.jpeg

I went to a bed shop round the corner from work to get some quotes/info on foam and dropped on a massive stroke of luck - second hand used foam mattress that they wanted rid of F.O.C. thanks to the helpful bloke there who said I could have a practice with it cutting it up. i.e. the bed will be split into 2 parts for a sofa/back. (It was in really good nick, no death stench/ 'fluid' stains or anything big_smile turns out, the 'practice' turned out perfect and I'm keeping it)

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-00_54_33.jpeg

Here it is when it's 'out' after building the frame on the other side and the leg supports - a full double bed size.

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-00_55_39.jpeg

More of the frame and supports which are sliding in and out for stowage when not in use (Bottom fridge vent also shown here):

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-00_53_21.jpeg

First outing! (Got a kitchen worktop by the way - it's heavy, but looks well - holes to be cut out for hob and sink should lighten it slightly)

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-01_10_22.jpeg

Like so:

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-01_13_18.jpeg

Got a 2nd hand Rhino roof rack for less than a 1/3rd of the price of a new one, was a little tatty so gave it a lick of hammerite:

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-01_13_58.jpeg

Incidentally, the same guy who sold me the roofrack had some radios for sale, So i got 2 x head units with working CD players and bluetooth (CD player didn't work when I bought it - Nightmare) so the tunes are sorted in the van - now just the sound system to sort out! watch this space.

Started playing with some cladding (temporary at the minute, not secured) this is how I think i'm going to finish the units off, you can see it a bit on the back end of this pic:

Screen-Shot-2017-05-02-at-01_18_14.jpeg

So there we are for now. Next up, gas / water connections and seat/bed cushion coverings. See ya then.

Hi Hywelius - can I ask what you hung the hammock from inside the van and how it fixes inside?

Thanks

Merry Crimbo, Hope all had a good one! I did well on van stuff..tupperware and utensils mostly!...Update time...

This wheel arches could have been neater, I rushed them a bit - but whatever - it's going to be covered up:

Testing hammock length...it's a bit small for me to be comfortable in for a night etc. but will serve as a good chiller when parked up or something between roof bars/trees or another van or whatever:

It'll need a few more hinges as the ply is a bit wobbly at each end. The plan is to have another piece that will 'roll' up on top of this. The base is solid as a rock though I added plenty of support, if anything, overkill but I thought it would be better for the longevity of it. It's anchored into the pillar and that metal box thing by the wheel arch. also into the floor at a few points.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/btRMK … 74-h632-no

It's coming together nicely! Hopefully will get chance to have a go at the rest over new year break.

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

I got a couple of these carabiners... (can probably find cheaper ones, but I liked the colours)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 … UTF8&psc=1

One end is hooked into the bodywork in one of the holes at the back and the front in that pic is just tied around the driver's seat head rest. I did initially hook it onto the handle by the front doors - but that didn't feel strong enough to be a permanent solution, felt like it could pop the handle out at any second if I fidgeted too much. It was a nice idea, but too small/short for a length like me to be a comfy bed for a night, not a lot of room to manoeuvre. If it's workable, it would pack down to nothing and free up a lot of space to use when not set up. Plan was to weld some loops on to the body to hang it from but I scrapped the idea, after trying it out, fairly quickly.

Did you see this?...

Guilty,  lol it's safe enough when the pans are on top, not too hot at the roof of the van. My built in hob is a little lower now which I just tested today.

With regards to the Battery, I've got nothing to compare it against as it's my first, but I've got no complaints. It was cheap! I've not used the van (stationary) for more than 1 or 2 nights yet and i would be driving round charging it during those days so never really had chance to run it down. I'm not putting much load on it at the minute anyway - day to day (I have hooked up a mains speaker to the inverter which I occasionally use).

I did leave lights on accidentally one day and it barely dropped (LED's won't use much I guess). Today I was charging laptop and charging a wireless screwdriver off my inverter (for about 6-7 hours), it was the first time I'd seen it drop really to about 10.8V or something. But like I said, I've got no real experience to gauge it against. Very happy with it, on the short trips I've been doing though the engine is regularly getting started for a top up.

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

Ordered it regardless Hywelius. IT has a three year guarantee anyway so for 60 quid you cant complain. My Lion 75ah i had in the Expert would last two nights with 3/4 bulbs, Stereo and the odd bit USB usage so a 110ah and switched to LED i am hopping for longer. I tend to only use campsites so use the EHU more.

BTW. You can string a job out  big_smile   tongue

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

Battery charger yes, already hooked up beforehand when I first put the 12v electrics in! I haven't managed to test yet though as I don't have a 3 pin adapter. I've just temporarily hooked up my 3 way fridge on 12v to see if it works, It was a direct connection to the leisure battery but I imagine if I leave it like this I'll just run it flat. Do you/anyone know anything about these? would I need a switch to turn the 12v supply to the fridge on, only when driving or something?

Solar is a pipe dream at the minute to add on at a later date but yeah it is in the long term plan. I suppose solar could help keep the charge in the leisure battery, but i doubt it will charge it as fast as the fridge can drain it flat. Surely my fridge isn't supposed to be on 24/7?? I'd check the instructions but it's in such poorly translated Chinese Engrish they're worthless.

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

IF you do facebook you want to join https://www.facebook.com/groups/897662543662685/ or https://www.facebook.com/groups/372385169760630/ as solar panels pop up for sale now and then at stupid low money. What split charge did you buy? If its the one i got (Smartcom) you have a live and earth in. You must earth or it will not charge and the 12v Aux is the only one switched meaning the other two are always getting charged when driving regardless of leisure battery charge state. Either option your fridge will be on 24 hour but not sure what size solar you would need to keep battery topped up for that. I will just be getting the 12v/240v cool box and use when needed only. The 50 quid job when they come up at Aldi will do me just fine.

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

Your 3 way fridge will draw something like 10A@ 12v continously. This would give about 5 hours on a 100Ah battery. Really the 12v input is only to keep an already cold fridge cold, when travelling between sites.
If your split relay does not have 12v aux/fridge out then you would need a seperate 12v 30A relay switched from the van 'engine running' relay which is easy to get from the glovebox fusebox.

Dono what you are on about mate. What i did and a few other is stick a bit flashband on the clean inside panels to prevent vibrating what is half you noise. Large panels like sides, roof, floor, inside doors etc. I used the 150mm roll of this stuff. Peel backing, heat and stick in place with the heat and hard roller.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLASHING-TAPE … qRklfOOofg

As for silver foil this bubble foil should be all you need all over every panel including floor. Shop around as you get sticky back stuff but of you cant find it just use spray glue

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-MP-Dou … RrA2Jnaovw

Glue

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carpet-Spray- … cGF01jbpKg

Once done then you can use whatever you want to cover the walls. Remember before any ply lining on walls, roof or floor decide what and where you want any wiring/plumbing or you will end up stripping half it back out again.

Basic split charge cheap

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAMPER-VAN-SE … SwU-pXuql1

That with something like a 110ah leisure battery will last a couple of days parked up with lights, music and the odd power socket use. Fat red wire in picture goes from main to leisure battery. Some of the wire going from leisure battery to fuse box (See lock bolts in middle) both wired in line fuse (supplied)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-24V-6-Way … SwbsBXik0m

You have six fuse holders in that box. Wire from say number one to lights, number two to stereo and one each to power sockets. Look at the items you are adding to a fuse box. If it draws 10ah then get a 15ah cable (never less) handy site for cables and connectors

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

Hi, Cheers!

I got some variation of this from rayne automotive:

http://www.rayneautomotive.co.uk/camper … n-kit.html

Really helpful and easy to deal with. Can call them up if you're struggling with the fitting if you don't know what you're doing. It's probably a hell of a lot cheaper to get everything individually and sort out yourself, but that kit avoids all the leg work (/required knowledge of whether things will work together) and is ready to go straight in the van. Minimal tools required, no soldering etc, it comes ready assembles basically and most of it is just push fit connectors.

You place the order, then send them a rough layout of your van with some dimensions etc and they make it especially to your requirements. works a treat.

Then a cheap leisure 130AH Leisure batt from ebay for about £70 - seems ok to me, all works sound.

I'm a little further along:

Re: Peugeot Expert 55 Plate - MY VANSION

So you dont want basic then  tongue Nay you more than likely did the right thing buying the whole kit like that. The stronger split charge system is around £60 and another for hook up, 70 odds for the inverter so there is almost 200 already then your charger and proper wiring. Dono what the common earth block is about as i earther my power inlet, consumer box and sockets all reperate to the van. You also have the added bonus of detailed instructions.
Remember an inverter can drain a battery fast so watch your usage. I dont need one so never looked into them much as boiling a kettle on the gar seems a safer option and everything else is 12v. TV is 240 but that will only be used at campsites anyway.

Your van is looking good, well dont. You doing anything with the sides under the bed? Box off, doors. That bottle opener at the back. Where did you get that as i am after a couple that style. Forgot to take mine out the last van and at the time i could not find a UK seller so bought it from China.
