hi all
one of my sliding doors (drivers side) sticks out at the top, it lets a boat load of air in and dont half make some noise...feels like it wants to be pulled in more at the top but i cant see any way of doing so, anyone had this before?

Open the door and pull up from bottom watching the middle hinge. I changed mine and it pulled it in no end. What i also did was stick this round the door where the existing seal meets the door so the two mate. It will still stick out slightly but it will be air and water tight

think i know what you mean, so the middle hinge can be adjusted then?

Both sides top locators have snapped on mine.
I have bought a pair of replacements:-

Just went out to fit them only to find they are fitted with star drive bolts and my drivers are 200 miles away. As they seem to be too weak and regularly break as standard. I also suspect they flex too much. They should be in steel imo. I intend to stuff their hollow interior with reinforced epoxy. Hopefully it will reduce flex and allow them to do the job they are supposed to. As in ease the top of the door inwards and hold it there.

To an extent yes but not to pull in. Its the wheels/rollers that are worn. Get to a scrap yard and play about with a few and find one that shut tight.

Oat - i have tried having a play with the locators but it seems to make no difference to me.
Casper - ill have a look in a sec, so do you suggest a new roller arm?

for example?
i cant visually see any issues with mine mind you

50 quid says that makes no difference. Reason i say that is get in your van and push the top of your door. It pushes out easy, the runner goes round a bend when you close the door so the runner is facing the door when shut. Nothing at the top holding it back.
Another option is the bottom hinge has three fixing bolts. You could add a 2nd washer between the door and hinge. This will push the bottom out a tad what in turn pushes the top in but may not be enough and you also run the risk of the electric contact not meeting for the central locking.

ahh i see, you are on about this here middle roller?

While I respect your greater experience, I think the only way the top could be pushed out, with the door fully closed, is if those locators flex. Or like mine. are snapped.
They work on a 45 degree angled wedge. It shouldn't (couldn't?) allow movement outward without a corresponding movement backwards, unless those locators are a loose fit in their sockets, or they flex.
Next option will be in steel.

I dont mean yu can stick your hand out and wave to your mates but a slight push and you see daylight. This gets sucked out when you drive along the road as the sliding door sits out from the drivers door. Crap design but nothing is perfect.
All the hinges/rollers wear and just replacing that top one will do nothing, he will still have the gap and this is exaggerated due to the movement of the other two. Best bet is the middle first as this one holds the door on back better than the top. Trust me, been there with my doors. Getting the middle hinge and adding more rubber seal was the best thing i could do. Well apart from getting three new hinges and new runners. Bet thats a pretty bill.

No option to replace just the rollers then?
I would expect them to wear before the rails.
Something like:-
Also considering in desperation for long bad weather drives... ratchet strap from door to door or if I can find a suitable size, some small over center cam type latches. Or some simple deflector strips down the B post.
You would expect pulling the rear in might make the front worse but I noticed on the Fiat forum a couple of mentions of some success by adjusting the rear latching plate.

Most seem to resort to C's cure of more rubber strip. This would obviously help the initial seal but wouldn't do anything to reduce the wind lift at speed. Which is the main problem with mine. Obviously tricky to measure while driving but at anything over 65 I can get my fingers through the gap. (can't wave though ) That would take quite some rubber to seal and probably make the door very tight to shut.

Are these plastic locators still in place mate

These prevent movement at top mount at speed

Take of the lower seat belt mount and the plastic trim you will find a few that have dropped over the years. I had three. I got new ones and shut the door once and it was gone Crap design

Yeah both my locators were not there when I checked, when I replaced them it pulled one back out so I glued it in and greased it seem to be working. Like you say shit design
