Well, with the MoT bill of health in the bag, it's probably time to think about doing something with the insides of the van.
I don't know yet if I'm going to go full camper or just dayvan. I was trying to explain some ideas to the Spousal Overunit and she wasn't really grasping what I was asking her to envision and drawings didn't seem to help either, so I pulled out the kids old lego box and made a (not to scale) mockup of how I think the units could be made and fitted to create the most adaptable use of space and widest bed-base possible.

Nice job cliffo, like your new hairstyle too.
It would take some skill in the building with all the sliding and fitting.
Certainly gives you a good bed size. The drawback to that being that once in sleeping mode, you would not be able to access anything but the bed and the front seats. No cuppa or breakfast in bed. Not even room for a pot to p in.
Also a lot of furniture needs to be moved to set up. Seems easy when the van is empty but not so when all the everyday bits and pieces are scattered, hung and stuffed everywhere. Shifting that top unit, presumably loaded with stuff, across the van will be a right pain.

Agree with most of that, OAT.
If I decide to go full camper then things will change. I need to convert the SO's thinking to less bedspace and more convenience.
I have access to a lot of the slats already because my sister is getting rid of one of the IKEA daybeds which uses the same technique.
The pull out units have been used to good effect in the camper here, but obviously they have a lot more space to play with!

In my opinion this is most difficult part of the whole process. I spent more time at this stage than doing the actual work.
Would agree with OAT that setting up and breaking down quickly becomes a chore, and even 5 mins extra becomes a pain. We don't even turn the seats if we don't think we need to.
The lego idea is great, easy to visualise and discuss. I found that cardboard boxes bound with packing tape gives a good idea of scale, which is very difficult to envisage otherwise. Sketchup is great tool once the concept has been decided upon.
I would mention that the main fixed unit is better behind the passenger seat, since the steering wheel limits how far the drivers seat can be pushed back.
Good luck.

Always seems a waste to me, especially in smaller vans, not to make best use of cab space.
As you already plan to fit swivels, you could move the whole bed forward onto the reversed seats and leave a meter or so clear space at the back even with the bed down. If the seats folded flat, even better.
You would need to fill the gap between the seats to make it a double and probably want a foam or self inflating mattress to even out any bumps.

Actually am considering the use of the swivels as bed space. Would make it easier to use the rear of the van as an egress point for toilet breaks (for the dog, obviously). Was considering putting a curtain crosswise across the end of the bed to make a small lobby area for that reason.
I'm planning on this furniture being modular and rough and ready so I can remove it whenever the van needs to be a van. But it's got to be good enough to please the Mrs
