My Scudo conversion.

Not sure if this will be of any help to anyone, but it seemed as good a place as any to document my Scudo's conversion.

The van is a 2003 2.0JTD Scudo with 113,000 miles on the clock. It was purchased for £600 from ebay.

It was bought on the cheap because of some panel damage to both side doors and the rear panels. The previous keeper had lived in a house with a narrow drive and at some point had caught both sides of the van on the concrete gate posts.

My plan for the van as of the moment is to:

Soundproof and insulate the walls, roof and floor of the van.
Fit a new ply floor and lay altro safety flooring on it.
Source a rear headlining and interior side and rear plastics from a taxi.
Fit two slide doors with windows from a taxi.
Fit a 240v electric hook up.
Fit some 12v lighting.

As the conversion will be removable, my intention is to do the following:

Somehow fit a Ikea Lycksele sofa bed so that it doesn't move around in transit, but so it can be easily removed when home.
Have a kitchen pod unit that can be removed from the van and used in an awning or gazebo of some sort.

As you can see, the idea is to keep the van as simple as possible so it can be emptied on return from camping and can be used as a van for work again.

I have started the process by buying the cooker pod and the sofa bed.

The cooker pod was another ebay purchase and cost £20. It is in need of a good clean and maybe a lick of paint, but it is in good working order.

The sofa bed is a Ikea Lycksele with the Havet mattress, which is the most expensive of the three mattresses. This again came from ebay. It was listed as having some damage and after firing off a email it turns out it had a damaged slat and a missing slat. When new it would have cost £280. I have bought it for the princely sum of £20.
I am yet to pick the bed up, but I know a few of the VW T4 guys remove the slats and replace it with ply anyway, so this is the plan for the bed.

So this is where I am at so far. I will be posting updates as and when there are any.
If anyone has any useful suggestions, they will be gladly taken onboard.

Phil.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I have taken delivery of the Ikea Lycksele bed and it does have one slat missing, but there is no broken slat, so that's good.
I have also just purchased this:

_57-1.jpg

The plan is to take the slide doors, roof lining, interior plastics and any spares I may need from it and then scrap it.
Once the doors are on, I will have to start thinking about bodywork and paint. I do have a bodyshop lined up, but it may be a couple of months before it gets done, as the cambelt, tensioner and waterpump need doing first.

I will post pictures once the bits have been fitted.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

The taxi was delivered last night, so I have spent today taking bits off it and test fitting them in my van.
Will have to take them all back off again to fit the insulation and the flooring. The roof lining could do with a clean as well. I also have to wire up the lights that came with the roof lining.
I have gone for a dark grey altro flooring, as I have managed to pick a roll and the adhesive up for free, as a friend had it laying around from a job he had finished.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

BTW. Me i would use the Taxi back doors and Drivers/Passenger, Bonnet and wings if bolt on. Less to paint and you can get good results from two or three thin coats of Hammerite smooth paint brushed on. I did a motorbike with it and you never seen the brush strokes. Another plus with the taxi doors you will see a wind deflector at the top rear side where they meet the sliding door. Less wind noise and reduced chance of water seeping through.

fiat-scudoexpertdispatch-heater-controls-1997---2001-398529184-full.jpg

Not 100% sure my problem is this or the knob yet as not pulled the button cover off yet. I have a busy day tomorrow but if i get back before dark o'clock ill have a look for sure. Do you do paypal and how much posted? You may as well earn some money back on your van before you scrap it. You should take some pictures of the inside whats left and see if you can sell as much as you can.

I'll check in the morning. I'm sorry I didn't get time today to measure the side door. I've just been mega busy today. I will do it tomorrow.

No great hurry Phil. The parts will sit in a box till i have more to do than one job anyway. Plus using the van to earn some money just now so its getting abused a tad  yikes

Just thinking aloud here so dont get exited. Is the front passenger seat single and what town are you in. Trying to think if its worth getting one and putting a swivel base under it or just buy a swivel seat. I only need the passenger to swivel.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Would this be a good time to ask if the wind deflectors on the rear of the cab doors on the Taxi are able to be removed easily without breaking and or in what fashion are they mounted. (Looking at photo, It appears to have them fitted)
Also if easily off is there any obvious part numbers visible ?

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Casper, The passenger seat is available, as is the spare one I had with the blue van. I am in Wolverhampton.

Vaz, I will check if it has them and if so, how they are fitted and any part numbers they may have.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Tiree, You are correct, they are there and have been bonded to the door! Not sure how to go about getting them off.
I could pry them off, but risk breaking them. I may look to see if I can use something to soften or break down the bonding material.
It seems to be some kind of heavy duty double sided tape.
I did think about a bit of heat to soften the adhesive, but need to be careful not to warp the deflector.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

You might be better to play it safe, leave them on, and try to sell the doors with deflectors intact.

Had a feeling they'd be more or less immovable!

Shame.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I would have liked to get them off, save changing the doors on my van. It would also give me something to make a mould of to see if they could be replicated.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Make you own

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Colour-Perspe … iGzAoZc5tA

I see perspex strips starting at £3 odds and some other ebay links say cut to size. Dont know how you would get the slope. I was thinking clear perspex but you would see the glue through it and would you want to pop rivet up the side of your door? It would not bother me so i may look into this later but i will be sealing the O/S door up so its only the wifes side that will get the noise. Life eh! Lol

Nah to far mate. Postage would make it expensive. Ill just keep an eye out for a swivel when i am ready for it. Shame as i would have used that Ply you ripped out also.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Today I have cleaned the inside of the van ready for the insulation to be fitted when it arrives. I can then get on with wiring up the electrics and fitting the panels and the floor.
I have also bought some ply and some 4 way stretch carpet so I can board the panel between the headlining and the plastic panel at the bottom on both sides.
I guess I am going to be busy for a while!
