Re: My Scudo conversion.

The insulation arrived not long after my last post, so I cracked on with installing it. Not the tidiest of jobs, but it wont be seen after anyway.

Mind and do under that roof lining. Thought you were putting the taxi doors on.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Tiree,

My blue van had one, but the taxi didn't. I wondered if it was some kind of heating vent or air recirculation vent, but truth is I don't have a clue.
The blue van no longer has it, as the taxi interior trim won't fit with it in place.

I'm leaving the doors for a bit, as it will be a two man job and I would like a good dry day to do it on.. The roof lining was only put up to make sure it fitted ok. It will be coming down if we have a dry spell over the weekend.

Funnily enough, the taxi had no insulation whatsoever, which surprised me. The roof had a build up of condensation on it when I dropped the headlining.

Not for heating. It joins on to a large pipe that just exits under the vehicle, with a sort of simple valve to allow air out but not in. Totally stumped!

For the record - I stuffed the whole thing full of insulation and closed it up  big_smile

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I dont have that vent either. Just now i have the jack in it wound slightly open so it fits snug. God knows what i will do with it later and the handle as the little bulkhead is also coming out. Need to make a cubby hole for them at the rear.

Talking vent. You guys suffer condensation or have you put a vent in, if so what? Dont fancy a spinning one on the roof also my roof rack sits low.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

My experience is that you'll get condensation with or without a vent in cooler weather.

It's not necessarily a bad idea to have one - but I don't think it'll stop condensation.

I don't have windows in the back - and virtually no exposed metal - so only condensation happens on the glass in the front.

That coupled with my dead heater blower means it can take 10 minutes to get my glass sorted out in the morning!

Not the end of the world.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

You camp alone Tiree? I will have the wife and dog with me. Dog is a rottie so like having three adults in that wee motor. The mut sleeps with us in the room just now and the condensation on my windows is quite bad so i was thinking may be 10 times worse in a wee van.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Yep usually just me .. or me and a border terrier.

With the two of you and a rottie I'd be tempted to fit a vent too!

Just to make sure you've got enough oxygen apart from anything else  smile

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I think that box thingy is some sort of vent like a car to release pressure when you shut the door........... if you look on you tube for a guy who goes by the name of Scudo Camper, he seems to use it to vent his Gas box and also the sink drain.. I'd need to look and see if mine is there or blanked off as it tucked away under bed.

We have the roof vent open every night but this time of year front windows still condensate.....I read back in the day a guy who converted a Vivaro/Traffic fitted a couple computer fans 1 in 1 out with some kind of timer to the Leisure battery on N off through the night for a flow of air

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I have just been out and measured the rear side panel. I have then cut some ply to shape and carpeted it. I have also carpeted some of the bare metal where the wheel arch trim and the panel meet. Would like to carpet all the bare metal, but may have to leave it due to the van being used for work.
Roof lining, side panel and wheel arch trim are not fixed in place yet as I have the roof to insulate, the wiring to do and the floor to fit before final fixing, hence why the panels are a bit wonky.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Got in after doing the other stuff and got bored, so I went back out took the rear door cards off and carpeted them with the excess from the wall panels. I am thinking the carpet is a bit light and I have got my mucky paws on the rear cards, so I might dye them with some spray dye.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

If it's any consolation - I went for a fairly dark charcoal carpet and the stuff just eats light!

Always reckon next time I'd go for something lighter  smile

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Any links to the thin carpet. Gong to need to get my finger out soon. I was looking at that hole in the floor again today and i am sure its for the jack. Its even jack shaped. Pop it in and open jack to stop it rattling.

Vaz. You talking about the pressure vents. I noticed one on the O/S in the middle pillar facing the rear door. I presume one on the other side what is quite handy as i dont have to worry about a condensation vent now.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I went for the cheap CarpetRite stuff: https://www.carpetright.co.uk/carpets/c … ain-carpet

Cheaper than the automotive stuff and still v flexible.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Um .. hmm .. I did the roof as well as pretty much everything else. It was nearly 3 years ago though so I can't remember how much I used I'm afraid!

I do remember going back for more though!

It comes in roles so the guy will just chop as much as you reckon you need.

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Cheers guys. Looks like Phil's link will be cheapest and easiest to fit. I was just thinking spray glue, is it good long term or better with a pot of carpet glue from B&Q

Re: My Scudo conversion.

I'm not going to say No, That B&Q carpet glue won't work, But I was under the assumption that there was a particular type (spray) glue/adhesive (Available on e*ay) for sticking trim/carpet to the van so the heating/cooling? doesn't allow it to sag down/fall off

Re: My Scudo conversion.

Straps were glued to the floor, and the ply floor was screwed into those (with insulation in between) instead of drilling holes in the floor of the van.

Def not necessary - I was just being precious about the bodywork!

Tomorrow i may start work on making my bed/seats

http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=2444338

To prevent this slapping the back of my napper in a crash it will be bolted through floor holding the ply in place. Four should do. No doubt ill make an arse of the drilling and be after a 2nd hand fuel tank soon  lol
