My Tin Tent

I wont be doing much to my build just now but here is where i am just now

http://mytintent.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page.html

To save the forum server space i use free weebly and jink the pictures to that from my Photobucket account. If you look at the menu at kleppenjagers that is a bike club in Holland that the wife and me go to every year. Looking to take the Pug this year  smile

Re: My Tin Tent

Another tidy looking van......... Same colour as the WAV that I tried out for a week or so middle of last year, It had same interior trim with single passenger seat.........We managed our first few days and wet and rocky nights away this year and I've just noticed that a couple heater control lights are out under the sliders.....If yours is still out,  Are they just a push fit cap less bulb.......... don't suppose you can see wattage on them so as I know what to look for?

Fiver says pop in as i am sure the 306 was like that also looking on ebay the later vans are pop in. Dont know the wattage though. Would they not be stupidly low like 5w or even 3?

Re: My Tin Tent

So not to hijack Phil's thread. I mentioned a vent due to two adults and a rottie in the van. I was thinking one of these but metal on the outside and one that slides shut on the inside. My problem is if on the side of the van rain water may get in when driving along and if i put it on the back door i could not get to the vent as i have a home made rock n roll bed up that end.

Any thoughts or other ideas?

Re: My Tin Tent

I mentioned in passing on the other thread that I read about a fella thats used a couple computer fans, 1 in 1out using some kind of timer on/off through the night for a flow of air.
No idea how effective or how well the leisure battery stood up to it.

It had crossed my mind that it might be worth trying as a sort of expelair type thing especially when boiling kettle with windows/doors shut on wet days

how about using tumble dryer hose and fan to draw it to vent in rear door or even an old vacuum cleaner hose/ small PC fan

Vent it  down the hole behind N/S wheel arch

I sure there's many a person on here that knows better than I, who could tell me how long a Leisure battery would last running a PC fan through the night

Right, I need a new cambelt, fan belt, water pump, service, fix rear doors, remove bulkhead, replace throttle actuator, first things first, get that radio out and a proper one in!  Love that you did that first, I did exactly the same thing.

You talking the large bulkhead? That is just about 15 bolts and its off. Dont bin it as i got 50 quid for mine.  smile  The small bulkhead on the floor needs an angle grinder i think. I may tackle that job next weekend as i want that out also. Yeah a good stereo is a must. Ill wait till the build starts proper before thinking about better speakers. That unit i put in ill be getting another for in the back as the front one works with the ignition so that would mean getting up to turn it off at night. They come with a remote control also what is a bonus.

Re: My Tin Tent

Had to bloody drill it back out. Leaked like a leaky thing  big_smile  I pop riveted from the bottom first and never properly noticed the gap at the top due to the curve of the door. Managed to bend the window lip some more and used a full tube of silicon, it was oozing everywhere when i was riveting it up  lol  Ill give it 24 hours before testing with water and if still leaking ill have to make a rubber seal. Still, first time i have did that kind of job to its a learning curve and the other side should be spot on when done.

Re: My Tin Tent

This probability sounds daft but I watched my mate reseal his clio sun roof with a bit of squidgy soft window washer type plastic hose split down the middle/trimmed at corners   arranged round the edge of the metal to take up the gap and some sikaflex where a water proof I assume spongy tape stuff  had rotted out and clamped it down with frame..... Seems to have worked OK for last few months but he won't open glass roof for fear of flex cracking seal he's made

Or could split plastic hose work for your runners ?

Re: My Tin Tent

I think the hose may be a tad tight as my I/D is only 8mm. Yeah the window. If its still leaking i will be making a rubber seal or order something more suitable from where i am getting the seal/runners.

Re: My Tin Tent

What type of silicon are you using? If its standard bathroom type silicon, it wont work properly.
Like vaz mentions, sikaflex is the best product for this type of application.

Re: My Tin Tent

More flex as it never completely sets. They use it on the seams in caravan construction to account for the movement.

Right OK. If that one is sealed ill leave it be but get a tube for the other side as that will be the entry door getting more movement. The first one is getting sealed and lock taken out.

So B&Q want £7 for a 300ml tube. Is that the norm?

Window is sealed  smile  One little leak but that is where the runner seal is broken (Ordered) and even then i had to throw a bucket of water at it so all is good in the world again.

Re: My Tin Tent

Not done much more buying shit for when we go away. Scored this today for £50. Only used a couple of times and as new. Think you can get them for 100 now but im happy. Just need the rail to attach to the van but ebay has them at under 20 quid.

Su2yPnvN6b6wN9_CgM22rxeFxstYQ8uQujHuJgyI2DKtA_KwF50cT8QjDG35QNn5bTqriWE8a5K5k1RF8X89k9KNd0MMRriWRp3Pdy5gV8M9wHfszdoL7quzfVgoO4bDE1hopI5V3LpFHAqgjnzcBpErubWFnHaopZbnVFwLRBRG-tJVI0ymByM82f0LVN3MXz07LDMXvUTCyun60RPkLCSLHAzADJYNLPoFztjuqbxpQFnoala-7-8XJRDnr1mZljm26NWuefHvfZJQbrkrBrOAzPiXgV52gTUqNpvFbrV4T54jNMnciU7t50j6hk5a9dUDpu9mzgEK2bvtVgr0DUwRTrj14wX9604DkrtIXu4zzZCEM7QDrZu2YO1bA-L7p3EMO1YjDb5D_y21CBVE9STYGaM6sMUjMSKGtbsVI1H-yySXI7FLY_aT8TSztoLaTStkoqfuklj12faEXG6GrheeHVsE0INsheDi2tI81Nmg_smx0NUrEa0Zy9Am2X_wa-BPAM0iYWtuyGJ3ZUJbmJq4MSUi2SQZ6PaWYS5obV3pyxuNWhJ3aRIvu2e0EkvzzKvbAWfgWpkEIA1Emv9n_uiC-cigT80=w800-h600-no

Also joined Go Outdoors for the discount card. Got a campsite hookup extension cable with the UK sockets on it for the wifes hair dryer. Little stove and gas and may go back for the heater as that takes the tame tins of gas. Also noticed B&M sells them also what is handy.

We were offered a drive away awning when buying van but we took option without as  our style of travel/camping we would rather have sunshade style same as Tee-cee

Still I do appreciate the amount of extra usable room it gives with smaller vans, I'm just too lazy to bother with an Awning if we're moving on everyday

Ive got one of those hook up cables to .... brand new never used by mate I bought it from..... Ive had it over Six months never used it either, I'm sure it'll come in handy as you say for hairdrier etc.. I must get one of those house plug converters for it..... I've also got a Genny it would plug into but apart from being noisy it's a pain in the hoop to lug about

Do you think you'll need one of those heaters in Sept the over water .... We thought about it last year for our 10 nights late Sept in Orkney .......... never needed it but then is this more for Awning?

I also carry one of those aerosol gas type stoves as back up (used/use it when away on bike) I found B&M gas not to burn as hot as the blue camping gaz tins and Wilko wasn't much better ..... still better than none at all

Not meaning to be negative just my observation over the years
