Sub frame bolts removal

Trying to get sub frame off at breakers but am stuck with last 3 bolts either side to rear of frame (torx head type), can loosen them a bit but it seems like some sort of captive nuts.

Don't want to give up as it's in vgood condition.

Re: Sub frame bolts removal

Can you not get a cordless angle grinder onto them and order up some new nuts?

Were they? Bloody great invention along with the cordless drill. No phone box or parking meter is safe from when they were invented  big_smile

BTW: The OP is in fife. No scrap yard is going to lend him oxy acetlylene for the fear of never seeing it again.

Hardened steel is like butter to a decent cutting disc on any chain or padlock, I lost two bikes a few years ago sad

Re: Sub frame bolts removal

Anyways back on topic has your subframe already been failed officially? If not a little welding done right will not be noticed once undersealed wink  but if its already on the system could be a probem. It's a daft law in my opinion that subframes cannot be repaired

Never underestimate the sneakiness and determination of a Fifer on a mission mate. Were you in Fife when you lost your bikes?

Talking about thieving. I thieve Sky TV through an Openbox. I first ordered one from a Dunfermline seller on ebay. That never showed up so i got him to send out another what also never showed up. I said to him "Dunfermline mate. The PO would have been robbed" His answer was "Aye, you are probably right" big_smile

Nah, its not that bad. Further east is a bit fruity though lol

Re: Sub frame bolts removal

Hi folks.
Sorry to hijack in here but i could do with some advice
My v reg expert van is going for an mot tomorrow and theres a 1 inch hole on the top of the sub frame. Ive been driving it through a muddy feild to try and hide it but its still there. He might not see it because its on top of the frame and difficult to see from underneath or the sides. The structural integrity isnt in any way compremised. Seems like replacements are hard to find as all sub frames from that era are rusted by now. Im trying to get hold of one anyway. Any thoughts???
Thanks

Re: Sub frame bolts removal

From what i am reading on a couple of facebook pages for camper building you can weld the subframe As long as you can get to it. Seamless weld with same thickness metal however, you have left it a tat late to be asking about this have you not? Let us know how you get on.

Re: Sub frame bolts removal

Aye well i had the hole concealed with mud lol but he found it and let if off without finishing the test because he know i wouldnt be able to get a new one in two weeks. save me paying for 2 tests. They seem super rare to find subframes from that era with no rot. I be the mediterrenean countrys are full of mint condition vans that are spotless underneath.

Re: Sub frame bolts removal

So what do you mean he never finished the test, pass fail?

TBH all the hassle involved i would just buy a newer van and swap the good bits over. Bonus if you have the room to keep the 2nd one on sorn.
