How do I get my damn sliding doors to shut properly?

I fitted replacement windowed sliding doors but no matter what I do I can't get them to seal all round. My worst one is the passenger side at the top:

I've read on here about using washers at the bottom, which has helped, but not completely. It helps at the top, but then the bottom is pushed out too far.

I feel like the top rail needs pulling in, but I don't think it's adjustable.

Any tips?

Middle runner tends to be the worst culprit. You using the original one or one that came with the new door?

Re: How do I get my damn sliding doors to shut properly?

The new door didn't come with any runners, so all original.

The middle one at the back? Most of my problems are at the front.

I know but that is what mostly pulls your door in. Your door catch on the door not van pillar will also have been set to a different position to your one. The top will make no difference when shut as the runner is facing outwards anyway to would run out that direction regardless. Try adjusting the door catch and slam. I had the same problems and ended up getting middle door runner from another van and instantly huge difference. I also go sticky back door seal to make a tighter fit around the door. The once behind the driver i sealed that door shut as not using it.

Re: How do I get my damn sliding doors to shut properly?

Interesting. I do remember the original door wasn't exactly sealed at the back, so it could well be the runner.

I assume you're suggesting changing the part that rolls along the rail, and not necessarily the rail itself?

Sorry mate had to nip out. Yes just the roller part and this is the seal i used. I ran that round the door at the point where it meets the old seal what made things nice and tight and no more wind noise.

Hmm, maybe I'll nip down the scrappy and try another roller.

Yea I have some of that sealant stuff in mine. It feels like a bit of a bodge though smile

I've checked a few 'stock' Dispatches and the top of the door sticks out just after the driver's door. What sort of design is that?!

See if you can find a Taxi version at the scrap yard. In the doors you get these hooks

What go here in the door

And they are designed for any passenger leaning on the door its meant to catch the door so they dont fall out. I felt they also helped stop the wind sooking the door out when on motorway

Also on some models you have air guides on the door behind the windows. This section

Its just long wedge shaped strip of plastic what guides the air out over the door as at present you have a sticking out part that the wind catches. Making a guide would make a huge difference.

Forgot about this guide. Open door and you have this inside the frame

s-l300.jpg

The lower part is meant to slot into the upper part. 100% shit design. You can adjust your lower part what is on the door as that will be set to the donor van. If your upper part (plastic) is missing you can take out the seat belt roll up at the bottom and the bit trim and fish out the original ones. I was thinking of welding a thick steel plate half over to hole to hold it back tighter but never did.

Yep, already got those (my doors are from taxis):

Yea I've seen those, I want them so badly! Only one I've found was on a scrappy, but he would only give it me with the whole door, at £40 each. They're super hard to search for because my searches come up with those wind deflectors/rain guards for in the windows.

Yep, seen and adjusted those, which did help a bit. I did end up throwing them inside the pillar a few times!
