XUD9 1.9 TD MPG?

I'm back with my MPG questions. I've been pondering switching to a TD engine, if only for the extra oomph, but also the better MPG.

Anyone here had a 1.9 TD XUD9 engine in their Dispatch? What sort of MPG were you seeing in sensible motorway driving?

I had one in the Synergie/806 which did much better than my 1.9D DW8, but there's the extra weight and height to consider.

There is a member on this forum who has done just what your looking for.
Personally I think you will need the 806 TD gear box as well other wise your using the same gearing and therefore same if not worse MPG......

Oh I'm not looking to reengine mine, just buy one that's already XUD9 TD

I had diesel fiesta cars (Turbo) what were all better than the diesel fiestas i used at work. Same model and rough year but works was a van. I found out its a different ration in the box for the van to allow it to move when it has a load. The can version in theory should not have as heavy a load so use a quicker ration. Could this not be the same here and getting a box from a 806 may give you that few MPH?

Personally if i was coming back to these vans i would be looking at the 2lt. I would also consider going to Europe to find a LWB and build up as that extra 12-16 possibly the same again up would make a cracking micro camper.

I'm sure these MK1 vans hark back to XUD9 days and will cross over to HDI's like 806's etc. do........
I'm not so sure they're going to be so easily found (now that I've said it they'll be one just down the road)

I'm going with Casper on this ....... Easiest- probably best option (Age,mileage,condition) would be a (Non FAP and normal turbo not variable vane) 2.0ltr HDI or camper out a 806 XUD9-TD .

I'm a bit lost as to what you're saying. I think you're saying the gear ratio in the 1.9TD 806 might be different to that of the 1.9TD Dispatch?

It's possible I suppose. Maybe I could check Citroen ServiceBox and see if the gearboxes match up.

I do like the simplicity of the older mechanical engines, especiallly the ECU-less ones. I also accept that they're not gonna be so easily found these days, and the HDis will be more plentiful. The way I see it is that the inevitable will happen in future and I'll have to accept that mechanical engines are a thing of the past, but I don't feel that today is that day

I did exactly that before the Dispatch. The Dispatch was an upgrade for the extra space.

Yes its a possibility. The fiesta being almost two identical motors bar back glass and seats but different box for different purpose. Did you try a tank of fuel yet with no oil to see if you get your 35mpg?

When I had the Lucas pump before the Bosch one obviously there was no veg then, and I do n;t remember it being stellar for MPG then.

Just checked the VINs for both my 806 and a TD Dispatch on ServiceBox

The first couple are identical between the two vehicles. The following have slightly different codes. I'm not sure why there are multiple options as these are based on VINs. Maybe it's because it's two years older and has more options? It looks promising though.

I'm with you all the way on that ...... Hence why I say a non FAP (DPF) basic HDI set up....... with the least amount of emissions technology strapped on engine that seams to cause the most problems these days............

I don't bother with checking accurately myself, (it's too scary wink )

But I do set the trip when I fill up normally from almost empty. I expect about 600 m per tank with mixed driving. Out in the sticks and up and down dale it drops to more like 500. Last tank while recently touring N Pennines and Yorkshire Coast through the recent weather dropped below 500 for the first time. Lots of low gears and wheelspin though. smile

80lt tank yes? My sums say 600 a tank is just under 35mpg and 500 just over 28. Possibly your van is not as bad as you think

That depends massively on OAT's definition of "almost empty". In my experience, I get 80 litres in only if the light's been on for a while.

True. Lets say there is still 5lt in the tank then. 75 divided by 4.54 (Gallon) = 16.51 so the 600 miles divided by 16.51 36.34 mpg. I cant remember what the book says what is left when the light comes on
