Sorry the owner described it as,he was driving , it made a sound like he had driven over a box then the engine cut out.

The engine is turning over weak, like it has a poor battery or starter. As the engine turns over, it slows down, then picks up  slows down, picks up..

Tried my 4x4 battery, its turning over a little better but sounds weak. Guy who fitted gearbox said to owner thought it was only trying to start on two cylinders.

Sounds like it's not turning over fast enough, no saying that's the problem but I'll need to start there. Going to charge battery up. Did try jump leads but it's been sitting a while

The cam is turning over with engine,  so belt must be intact?

Going to charge battery and get a can of easy start, that will help rule out fuel pump or fuel issue if it doesnt start

He also said he topped up collent with a different colour anti freeze, red mixed with green, collent is also below minimum. Mixing those two isnt good..

He also had some fit a another gear box very recently but I cant see that causing issue starting

Once I get a look at it I'll have a better idea and description for you. It's a 54 plate, 124000 miles. Bare with me, I'll update asap. Cheers

Going to try help out someone with a 1.9 d non turbo scudo. Being new year I've not had a chance to see it yet. All I know at the moment is it was driving, he heard a sound like driving over a box and it cut out and hasn't started yet. Any common issues with these engines to look out for.

Cheers
