#1 Re: General Discussion » Ignition Barrel » 2025-12-23 08:42:22

Hi, I've just had the same issue. The ignition barrel is toast and the key is stuck solid so going to replace it for a used one from donor van.

Is there a way to get the keys that will come with the replacement ignition switch to start my van?
Can I just take the pickup coil from the donor van and replace that too, will that match the key transponders or is getting a new key cut and respogrammed unavoidable? Thanks

Im sure theres not many interested in repairing these old vans anymore but just incase...

I've finally got round to doing this repair myself and I would recommend it.

Cost £17 for the kit from the website listed previously, which comes with the new ribbon and a special silicone tip for soldering iron.
took maybe a few hours and now LCD works perfectly.

It's very very fiddly and hard to see what your doing but worth the effort.

I was under the impression there was no solder involved. Just a conductive glue?

Anyone with experience of changing a heat bonded ribbon like this?

How likely is this to be the problem? Or could the LCD itself need replacing, or is there no way of knowing without trial and error...

For £17 odd including the needed flat brass soldering iron end I think it's worth a go?

Hi, my van has the standard problem with the odometer LCD no longer displaying anything. Occasionally I get half a number etc etc but would like to repair it.

The backlight is working fine.

I've seen it mentioned that this is a problem with the ribbon that joins the LCD screen to the board.

Looking on YouTube, I found this video https://youtu.be/pmVOs5fPL48?si=Ef2u4aXdej3Uw8Oj

I've looked on his website that sells heat bonded ribbons to repair your own

https://www.akspeedo.com/fiat-citroen-p … repair.php

Looks simple enough to do but has anyone tried this repair and was it successful?

Thanks in advance.

#6 Re: Maintenance » Heater control with A/C problems with blowers & hot/cold not working. » 2023-01-12 09:37:11

Hi thanks for that, yes the green signal wire does go directly to the heater control. I have continuity tested that wire back to the plug pin on the heater control panel and the wire is fine, but there is no voltage on the plug pin on heater control.

I did investigate that white relay at the back of the drivers footwell and that is the relay for the A/C clutch. It activates when you push the button on the control panel.

I have 14v to both blowers via the big red cables. For the time being I have setup an on/off switch for the fans so can at least turn them on or off now.

Do you know if it's comes to it can I convert the hot/cold actuator back to cable control, are the parts interchangeable on the side of the heater matrix box?

JohnDragonMan do you know if there is a cabin temperature sensor that may be at fault, that maybe causing everything to stop working? And if so where I might find it, I have found the temperature probe down in drivers footwell going into heater matrix but is there anything else?

Maybe this?-https://www.euspares.co.uk/parts-catalog/air-quality-sensor-15122/peugeot/expert

I have now tried another replacement heater control panel which made no difference

I have checked my blowers on a friend's van, the one that blew on one speed constantly was faulty, but anyway I now have two perfectly good fans fitted and they do not run at all (but work perfectly on all settings in friend's van)

Cheers

further to my last reply. here is pic of the control panel and the plug pins, top left pin is the blower signal wire.

hmm interesting. do you get any power to your heater control panel? when you hit the AC or recirculate buttons so they light up?
i guess you have seen it but if not i retrofitted that system into my van.
well the hot/cold can be manually changed but you do have to take off the bottom plastic bit below the gear stick. i think its just 4 screws for that.
if you are in the uk, on the drivers side you will see the control motors for the flaps.. i sadly cant remember which one is which but you can manually move them so you will have the hot on.

you are not close by to Derby are you? i dont mind taking a look. theres a plug behind the glovebox for the main controls to the motors that may had come undone. it carries the signals from the panel to the speed controllers and actuators.

theres also a relay near where the flap actuators are its white in colour if i remember right. i am not sure what it does as i never delved into it. wish i did now though. maybe check that while you have the heater box cowling off.

Hello, thanks for the reply. Yes I've seen your post on the retrofit, very interesting.

Yes the panel has power, a/c and recirculate buttons work fine.

I have already had the blend door actuator motor off and can then change the flap position manually but I couldn't move it with the motor attached, I had assumed it was just very low geared and didn't want to force it.

Also worth noting that I did find 14v going to the small red wire (one of 5 wires to the plug) that goes into the actuator, but it obviously isn't getting signal as it doesn't move with the slider control.

I had a really good look around and can't see any plugs undone etc.

As you probably know ontop of the control panel PCB you can see the 18 solder contacts of the plug pins, the small green wire for the blower signal is the top LH pin. I have tested with the van running and getting no voltage at the pin itself.... I will try and upload a photo to show what I mean.

Unfortunately I'm in Devon but thanks for the offer, if I was local I'd definitely be keen for a set of eyes over it.

In all the stuff about blower problems I have read, I am sure there was mention somewhere of getting only one speed (any speed) being directly related to the resistor.

Hi, I haven't ruled out the blower resistor however there is no voltage at the green signal wire, (whether it's plugged into the blower or not) where others are reporting a variable voltage upto 8v. With only voltage to the big wire, it would never be able to go more than one speed.

I have read mention of the single speed issue too, but have also read on here that the blowers stop working completely when the resistor goes but I appreciate it maybe different each time.

Also seems suspect that the hot/cold controller has stopped working at a similar time.

Hello, firstly apologies as i know this general topic of blowers not working has been covered many times but as my van has air conditioning the setup is quite different and i cannot find any threads matching the problems im having.

Hopefully someone with knowledge of the A/C style heater setup maybe able to offer some insight.

The problem is i have no control over the blower speed, the blowers are just on constantly at one speed, and i cannot turn them off, but In addition i also have no control over the hot and cold. The heater control panel is different to vans with no A/C (the hot/cold slider on my van is electronic, not cable, and controls a blend door actuator). Currently just stuck on cold and the actuator isnt moving at all when the slider is operated.

I have checked voltage at the blower plug, 14v to the big wire but no voltage at the small green signal wire.

i have changed the relays and ive checked all the fuses, no problems there.

i thought it must be the heater control panel itself, so i purchased a used replacement, but still the slider controls do nothing. maybe the replacement is dead too???
i have tried taking it apart and cleaning the contacts on the back of the circuit board, but made no difference.

any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
