Hi - bizarre occurence while driving along this afternoon; our clock suddenly started behaving as though the adjust button was being held in. No amount of jiggling of the button would stop it, & it carried on with the ignition turned off. Removing fuse 6 (Courtesy light - instrument panel - audio equipment) stopped it, but it started again as soon as the ignition was turned on.
Any suggestions please? If it can't be cured, stopping the clock altogether would be fine. It goes without saying that I don't fancy taking the dash apart . . .
Hi - apologies for not following up sooner. The faltering at 50mph in top stopped one day a few months back, & from being a constant occurrence it has gone to non-existent. Completely. The whistling is still there sometimes, but that wasn't coming from under the bonnet anyway. The bad interference on the radio has gone too. I wish I could point to some cause, but I can't - it was just an ordinary day; faltering in the morning, then fine when used again in the evening. The engine management light has appeared briefly 5 or so times over the months, as opposed to several times each journey.
Go figure, as they say. I'm just glad it's behaving itself. Thanks for all the suggestions - sorry I can't give a proper solution.
You got my hopes up there! I too pretty much always have something - well, the phone - plugged in. No difference unplugging it, though - sorry! I wondered whether it depended on the powering of the radio - ours will only come on with the ignition (like the lighter), but as far as I can find out it's fuse 25 that gives it permanent power (at least, according to http://www.berlingoforum.co.uk/thread-2492.html), and that's there, which is puzzling in itself. Maybe the lighter should be permanent instead - how's yours set up?
Cheers
Nope. Spent a while following all the vacuum-looking tubes & pipes around the engine in the hope of finding a loose connection or a wear point that might be letting air in, but no joy. Just living with it at the moment - it only occurs when the engine is under slight load, so I'll just have to learn to coast along & then floor it every now & again . . .
Still no idea either why the radio reception's so rubbish - on two different radios. Ah well, these things are sent to try us.
Thanks for the follow-up
OK - thanks for that; I'll keep looking. Unless anyone else has any ideas?
Cheers
OK - that sounds like a good idea; I remember a similar whistle from the inlet manifold of our old Riley ! & just to show my engine ignorance is far greaer than yours . . . any suggestions where to start looking for that on the Dispatch?
Cheers
Bother! I knew I'd leave something out . . . it's an ordinary 1.9D - non turbo.
Sorry about that - but thanks for the speedy response
Pete
Hi - hope these symptoms ring a bell with someone. We've just bought a 56 plate Dispatch, and the EGR valve had had one of its two pipes broken off. That's now been replaced, but the van continues to show a few very odd things:
there is an occasional brief loss of power under light load
there is a high pitched whistle at particular revs - eg around 55 to 65 in top
the engine management light comes on for a short while at seemingly random times.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks
Pete
