Thinking about "killing" the cat... What are the pipesize, outer diameter of the cat?

last year the back box on mine came adrift and after fixing that dicovered front pipe at silencer was broken.............
It was at this point I discoverd that I should have bought a full system and had the choice of the system I had with a Cat or an older type system with NO CAT
"I don't know if you can mix & match Within that part of system" {Probibly not}

Thanks, Vaz. I was thinking more in the way of replacing the cat with a piece of steel-pipe. The rest of my exhaustsystem looks OK.

When i bought a new system for my 1.9D also unknown to me there was a Cat/Non Cat version. Non Cat was was cheapest so obviously being a Jock i ordered it. Next morning the company mailed me to say they cant send me the exhaust as my van came with one standard and i would be illegal for them to sell me it. I did think what a lot of horse Sh** but i think after a certain year you cant take them out (UK Legally)
Absolutely no help to the OP but there you go

I can see and have experienced the legalities of removing a cat from a Petrol Motor.............(UK Emissions)
But your correct it's "horse Sh**" Sounds like you were too honest about age of Van then..........
When it comes to Diesel Motor I thought emissions were down to Opacity of the exhaust..................
No Diesel Cat is going to stop a "Dirty Diesel" pumping out black Smoke
"Jumpy-Joe"~ Can you get your hands on a measuring caliper to answer your question ........
I'm sure as something tells me sections of exhaust are sleeve joints rather than an expanded joint

Ordered on a random exhaust site what does the search via your reg.
What i did learn was you can legally take the ABS out on early vans/cars. Lets say ABS was a legal requirement in 2005 then any motor before that date it was classed as an optional extra. You must take it all out. Pump,ECU, Sensors and loom. The rings can stay

I've had this before "Why give you the option on your reg If you can't use it"?
If I go back a number of years when I took my Lada 4x4 (Petrol) in for MOT it being a 1993 every one including myself thought it was fitted with a Cat, but it never was and at first neither I nor the Mot man noticed...........
It was when his side-kick was doing an emissions test and it failed to come up to scratch .............
There was a bit of a barney with Side-kick when I was accused of removing it .........
(and although it's first time for test here in Scotland I had had it about 5 or so yrs at this point)
But because mine is Carb fed none was fitted but the generation after that was fuel injected were fitted with a Cat...........
when MOT Man checked VIN-Number all was revealed .........
Side -kick had entered later version parameters an easy assumable mistake because it said Cat fitted, but he was behaving like god almighty and how could he be wrong (Hence Argument).........
I'm still wait for an apology for removing Cat ... even though Side-kick is no longer employed there
(Funny thing No Cat and it just missed a pass by skin of teeth and they were looking for a leaky joint Etc when No Cat was found ?)
