Heated Rear Screen Relay location

There is a nice meaty wire running to the back of the vehicle for the Heated Rear Windows - I don't have heated rear windows so figured I may use that cable to supply the rear ancillary electrics (USBs, lights, etc).

I'd like to find out where it terminates in at the front of the van so that I can splice a live feed in to it.

The wiring diagram is not the easiest to pick apart for actual locations and there is often not enough slack in loom at the front to 'scroll down' to find the printed wire codes.

So, does anyone have heated rear screens - when you switch them on, can you hear a relay 'click' anywhere -- or do you even know exactly which relay it is?

Cheers

Re: Heated Rear Screen Relay location

I have heated rear windows but have never noticed any relay click.

I will have a good listen tomorrow though.  Do you suspect they may be behind the glove box?

Re: Heated Rear Screen Relay location

I reckon so. On the right of my fuse box there are three relay locations. The bottom one is populated, the other two aren't. The Electrical Diagram suggests that the heater timer (which I reckon will incorporate the relay should be in the fuse box area.

My next option will be to see if I can feed in via the fuse but I wouldn't mind tapping in to the heater's 12V supply, too

Re: Heated Rear Screen Relay location

Sorry Cliffo, remembered to listen but forgot to post.

Couldn't detect a thing though.

Tried with ignition on and off.

I would expect it only to be live with engine on but perhaps also only when running?

If I have time and can find my meter I will have a closer look tomorrow.

Re: Heated Rear Screen Relay location

Ah, don't worry, - a little trial and error with a bulb and a battery identified the middle pin of the middle (yellow) empty relay socket.

I'm going to take the permanent 30A live from the heated seats fuse (I don't have heated seats!) and run that to the back over the rear window line. Once there I'll use the ignition-switched 'trailer' feed to tap off a heavy duty relay so that I've got both a permanent live and switched live high current feed at the rear of the van - may even put leisure battery there with split charger

Yes it is the middle socket.  With a yellow relay in mine.

Only live when engine running though
