Brake bleed nipple/valve

Is it normal for there to be no cap on the brake bleed nipple? If so, how to I "open" it?

EDIT: When I replaced my starter motor last week, I noticed the clutch bleed nipple didnt have a cap on either...

EDIT: It looks a little bit like this, without the screw thread (I thought it was a valve, but is this just something to be removed?)

I believe you are mixing those with bleeder+ one way valve thingies as off/on some vehicles.
It's "one way" system, where you aught to (one person press brake pedal),use spanner to release- bleed- tighten up. Nothing comes back in to the system. Cover isn't needed

Ahh okay, so its a one way - got it. But it's round? How do I get a spanner on it...

just make sure to use a 6 sided union spanner or better yet a 6 sided/point socket to break it. if you round these off they can become wuite the nightmare.

Funny you should say that - if you look at the other nut just above my thumb, next to the bleed valve - that slightly damaged nut is courtesy of my adjustable rounder (also known as an adjustable wrench/spanner) - I had a 10mm spanner, I have a 12mm spanner, but why do all these spanner & socket sets you see in Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and the like never come with an 11mm spanner? FOOLS! Anyway, before I fixed my piston issue, I thought I might have to take the calliper off the vehicle to work on it without being restricted by the vehicle and the limited work area, so I tried to undo the brake fluid pipe with the adjustable rounder, and after it slipped a couple of times I gave up... as it turns out I managed to seat the piston correctly, push it back in and get the pads on etc. without needing to remove the calliper. So all's well that ends well, eh!

EDIT: Yeah, I used an 8mm long socket from my lovely chrome vanadium socket set that I got from Lidl. It's the best set of sockets I've ever had, where I'm spoilt for choice when it come to the sockets... for most of them, from around 6mm up to around 30mm, I have a selection of long ones, about the length of a spark plug socket (5mm to about 17mm), I have a 1/2" drive one (around 10mm to 30mm) for the big ratchet (also fits my breaker bar - FYI, another god send!) , and a 1/4" inch drive one (around 4mm to 14mm) for the small ratchet.

No, Particular is non valve, just a nipple for attaching bleeding hose, 10mm spanner (releasing and tightening) will be acting as valve.

Yes, in the sense, you should never let brake fluid or anything in to the system from nipple end, everything as top-up, bleeding or right full flush needs to come from reservuar, servo, pipes, calipers and through the nipple out.
