Hey All…

Evening all. I’m James from Malvern in Worcestershire.

Thank you for having me. I’ve become owner of a 2005 54 plate Citroen Dispatch 2.0 HDI. Great van, was originally a poorly converted camper so plan is to get back to good van.

Issues

Speedo not working hit all other gauges do.
Heater not blowing hot air but can working and AC
Passenger window not working but window drops slowly on own
Passenger wing Mirror won’t work
Knocking/Banging from rear maybe shocks?

Please help with advice and tips

Thanks smile

James

Re: Hey All…

Hello and welcome James,  smile

Well your speedo and heater issues are virtually standard "features".  You will find many posts on both if you search.  Count yourself lucky that the other gauges ore ok.  smile  My own speedo intermittently stops but is usually working again next start up so I haven't bothered investigating.

The blowers are renown for being problematic.  Not having ac I have no idea how normal heating and ac are handled either electrically or air delivery at the blower end.    Totaly independent or using the same wireing and air pipes.  The resister unit thingy on the blower is prone to fail.  Is it blowing but not hot?  The fact that it works on ac might point to controls rather than the blower itself.  The slider controls are very flimsy and it could be they just need a clean.  Very easy to break though so careful with them.

Not been too many complaints about windows I don't think.  Electric or manual?  Last time I had that (in a different vehicle), I fixed it with a some elastic cord in a loop from the winder to the mirror adjuster.

Wing mirror not working!   Are you perhaps a vampire?  wink    If its manual it will be the cables.  They are quite intricately designed and fascinating to watch their action when you get them out.  Like something from  robots wrist.  Very awkward to refit though.  If electric, check fuses or for shorts I suppose.

I have had knocking from the rear on mine which I struggled to track down.  It happened mostly on speed bumps.  At first I thought it was my fridge bouncing.  Turned out it was exhaust hitting on underside of the bumper.  The bumper spread the noise right across the back end making it difficult to pin point.  Fixed by replacing the rubber doughnut mountings.  They looked ok but must have lost some of their resistance.

Check out the search though.  It is a bit clunky but should turn up some previous posts that may help.

? Oat, looking at it the Speedo has being out before as the vents next to it are damage and screws missing along with damage to the Speedo unit. I am guessing heater control I looked today but how do you take the pane out to clean I couldn’t work it out…?
I will look at the window and mirror tomorrow evening along with the exhaust in case that the issue.

I do have a list of issues to deal with along with sloppy gear selection and brake wear light coming on and binding sound from rear when breaking.

Re: Hey All…

Hey I have the opposite to you on my dash - the speedo works but the trip clock resets itself randomly and I have no idea what the odometer says, and the time-of-day clock stopped working ages ago  lol

I know the heater is controlled with a cable that pulls a flap in the back. If you move it quickly left to right do you hear the flap moving? To OAT's point about the resistor, is the speed control working? If not, that'll be the resistor like he says

For the rear banging, that could be the bushes where the trailing arm attaches to the chassis. I guess you could wbble it? But you might have to apply more force than is possible manually

Re: Hey All…

Regarding the knocking from the back, i'd advise finding a friendly pothole or speedbump (hah) and driving over it.

If it sounds like:
- "clunk clunk" then check to see if the exhaust has a broken bracket and that the spare wheel holder is secure.
- Twanging a ruler on the edge of a desk then it's probably the rear trailing arm bushes. You can replace these yourself, you just need some tools and a jack.

If the heater isn't blowing hot air, just double check that the antifreeze is topped up. A big enough loss (due to some piddly plastic bit splitting, ask me how i know...) can mean water isn't getting to the heater matrix bit.

Re: Hey All…

So any suggestions for a temporary fix for the heater?

When the van gets warmed up the air coming out is like a dull warm, coolant is topped up but still same.

Any suggestions to fix or temporary heat?

Thanks

I had this on my old van after my oil cooler leaked oil into my coolant. I found if I revved hard it would be... warm. If I was idling it would cool down. I assume all the oil clogged up the heater matrix

Re: Hey All…

The speedo on my van is intermittent and works when it feels like it...............
I'm informed that after changing another set of clocks and giving away what turned out to be a working set of clocks, The likely cause is the gearbox pick up sensor is most likely faulty............
I've had 3 MOTs now showing no mileage I haven't bothered to correct mileage if it's not showing when it needs to or look at gearbox speed sensor...................

To remove heater slide............. you have to remove the knobs obviously  ..... Theres screws hidden by the lid of ashtray and gear leaver gaitor IIRC

P.S. the speedo and other gauges are garbage I'm told ... Also told replace with a good working set [when you can find them] rather than that near impossible repair ...............

And Welcome aboard ...........................................

Before I forget ....................

Re: Hey All…

I have a banging noise on the back of mine.  I suspect the trampoline springs are the problem.  You go over a bump and the back end gets air.  Needs new springs and probably shocks as well.  It could also be the exhaust, but isn't the spare wheel holder on mine as I serviced and painted that when I got the van.

My odometer has never worked, but the MOT last year was about 170k, so its probably around 190k now.  It's not the end of the world if it doesn't show a value, just as long as you make a mental note to drop the oil every 6 months and check the filters.  I second that the console is absolute junk.  Mine has so many lights on at ignition.  The only one that stays on after startup is the airbag light.  I'm probably going to hack it for the MOT using one of JohnDragonMan's hacks and wire it to the battery light so it switches on with ignition and off after the vehicle starts, at least until I can be bothered to rip the front seats out and try and work out why it is actually on (probably the wiring is fkd).

I would say to you to check the rust issues on yours, especially the back two corners.  On mine the two pillar bottoms were heavily rusted.  Easiest to fix by removing the rear bumper.  They probably need replacing on mine, but I opted for Isopon and rust killer paint.  If I have this van in a couple of years I will probably need to weld some new ones on.  i think the rear airbag sensors are in those pillars as well (plastic sensor looking thing in each one).

Is the air coming out at full blast although only warm?  If it's not blowing quite strongly a blower pipe could be partially disconnected.

Any difference switching from external intake to recirculated?
