UPDATE: Hello guys....I've resolved the issue. Just so you know, the thermostat can be pryed out of the housing carefully using a sharp knife or blade. Do be careful though as you don't want much damage on the rubber seal around it.

Whenever I've bought a thermostat it comes with a new rubber seal. I'd take the seal out and replace it, making sure to fully clean the mating surfaces

Is it just the photo, or is the housing casting behind the thermostat the texture of polystyrene?

Ha ha no it is actual metal but the light makes it look like something else.
