Hi guys,
I have a 2000 1.9d Fiat Scudo.
Today while driving the van cut out on me and there was a slight electrical burning smell in the cabin. Now I’m no stranger to this (minus the burnt smell), it happens at least twice a year when the fuel cut off solenoid burns out (crap parts I assume).
My usual remedy for this to get me home is to change the burnt out solenoid for my trusty welded blank version. This got me on my way home. While driving, I noticed I had lost the speedo, coolant temp and fuel gauge. Once home I realised I have also lost glow plugs. The van will start but takes a while.
Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this problem? All fuses are ok. Checked multiple times physically and with a multi meter.
I will also point out that indicator lights, time clock etc still work on the instrument cluster
Thanks

Your wiring loom cooked somewhere I'm afraid and there's no quick fix to it, but to find where exactly and start by re'isolating each wire.

Ok thanks for that. I was hoping for some piece of info that would help me sort the problem in 5 mins
I will take the dash out then I can get a propper look at it all.
Thanks again. I will update if/when I find the fault

Found the problem. I decided to start my search on the drivers side and got lucky. Found the the after market immobiliser had cooked.
Removed all associated wiring and resoldered wires that had been cut. Working better than ever now.

yeah thats nice. looks like its been getting slightly warm.
ahh using solder as a thermal fuse.. thing is if you want it do break contact when it gets hot it never does! i have used solder as a fuse before though. leaves nice little beads of solder over a PCV which goes and shorts out other things. dont ask me how i know.
i do love a good wiring job though. i have built a custom 50cc scooter from a cheap chinese bike i bought from facebook. i hated how it had one 10 amp fuse for everything and a crappy 2 pole generator. now its running a full 3 phase generator and rectifier regulator, with a 8 bay fuse box and every electronic bit of the bike behind its own fuse. wire thicknesses were also upgraded and i even put high powered things like the headlights behind a relay! all cool stuff!
here have a look if you are interested.. i pretty much document most things i do.
i never thought my mindless ramblings would bring in a bit of cash every now and then but there you go!

Notice: I have the tendency to void warranties, blow fuses, cause fires, and other fun stuff.
Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".
