Hi all,
I've been enjoying the site while lurking in the shadows but now looking for some advice on where to go next with a remote locking issue - 56 reg mk1 ph2 Expert.
Remote was working fine and then over the weekend I noticed reduced range on the fob and then not working at all. Replaced the battery and done the reconnection process from the manual but no luck.
Central locking working on the key in drivers door but don't want to rely on that long term with the locks being as flakey as they are on these
Couldnt see a fuse for remote locking in the manual, unsure if there's anything else DIY style to try next. Any ideas? Thanks
Update: I posted this on Mk1 conversion FB group and got some info on wiring up a universal replacement fob but hoping to fix the original, preferably.

If a key in the drivers door activates the CL I doubt its the fuse
as I don't see a fuse purely for the RF side of the system.
If you want to look, I see fuses F8 and F9 supply unit 8630 the
'passenger compartment protection unit'
I'd have called it the 'central locking control unit' meself but meh, what do I know?
Did you actually test the new battery before fitting it?
IIRC My fob had 2016 cell in there which I managed to replace with a good quality 2032
when I renewed my fob as it has much higher capacity.
Also check you didn't lose the wee transponder chip when you were fiddling, I did that but
luckily noticed it drop on the floor and grabbed it sharpish.
(yeah i know that doesn't unlock the doors, but its easily done)
If the above is ok you may need someone to check the fob is actually transmitting as they can go wrong and the
switches especially will wear out eventually so I'd be checking those too.

I know it's likely irrelevant but I know my old Peugeot 106 had a fuse for the infra-red CL sensor, that was distinct from the fuse for the CL itself

Thanks for that RegW, checked those fuses as well as fob battery, all good. Also the switches do seem to be causing a voltage drop when activated so as far as I can tell haven't failed. I'll bite the bullet and see if I can get someone to check the signal from the key next

Here's a weird thing that may work.
Disconnect the battery and wait for a few minutes before reconnecting it
to allow any voltage in PCB caps to drain off.
On some vehicles it has been known to reset the security system and
as its easy to do, worth a try.

Sorry to hijack, but can anyone tell me about the reconnection process please?
Few years ago my key fob stopped working. Tried a new battery, but still nothing. Didn't realise there were poss other steps I should have taken to set up the remote locking.
I've been using the key in the locks for several years now without problems. Is there anything else I should be checking or trying?

Handle battery by edges and don't hold it between your thumb and forefinger top & bottom or use plastic tweezers.
Make sure the new battery is good and in date.
Make sure the contacts inside are making contact with the battery securely and the polarity is correct.
Re-sync the key with the car (if you've more than one, you might have to do them in turn in the same session)
It's been a long long time since I done a Peugeot RF key fob as both my more recent PSA vehicles are IR fobbed.

The very definition of "synergie"

Yes, I can't remember what it's previous number plate was, but I think it's ex-Citroen UK. The colour is something like marchioness red pearl metallic. I don't have the code to hand.
Sadly missing its original 3 spoke Monaco alloy wheels.
