Dead Heater / Air-Con

Hi folks, so I’ve impulse purchased a mk1 1.9 Dispatch WAV, for general use and conversion to very basic camper. Full “new van” post to follow (and may ask for some advice on valuing the mk2 van I recently bought and will now have to sell ?)

One of the reasons I chose this mk1 is that it has AC and I have a dog. I knew there’d be a good chance it would need attention given the age but thought repair would be cheaper/easier than retrofitting.

When driving the van home yesterday, the blower/heater all seemed to be working well. Had it on full heat, full fan, just testing it all out. Pressed the AC button and everything stopped. There seems to be a low level of ventilation coming through now but I’ve only checked this while driving so not sure if there’s any actual power there. Any thoughts? No advice is too simple, I have very little mechanical/automotive electrical experience. Sort of another reason I picked this van, something to learn on.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Dead Heater / Air-Con

I'm lucky in that my AC works fortunately but one quick observation come to mind for starters
and that's checking for clutch operation on the pump when you push the AC button in.
I can actually hear it on mine but if you get a look inside the engine bay you should be able to see it engage
near the pulley when the button is pressed.

My old Galaxy had an AC problem where the clutch wasn't engaging due to a faulty pressure sensor
I obviously cant say what your problem is, but its worth checking if only to tick it off on the list.

Re: Dead Heater / Air-Con

Does the blower work again when you turn the AC off?

Re: Dead Heater / Air-Con

I’ve sorted the blower now, thanks folks. Checked the fuses again and found a blown one I’d missed first time round ?♂️ Interested to see whether the fuse blows again when I test it again!

I haven't a clue but would be very interested to know.

Mileage, advisories, etc?
