OK. I think I blocked off the wrong pipe.
The left one of the two from solenoid is correct..... I think (as the other end is broken off from somewhere... I presume the egr assembly). Second pipe to block off runs from bottom left of egr valve to another location as i the photo above. It is the one with the yellow x. Is it OK to block it off above there where it terminals????

Hi. I have same problem. Smokey. Jumpy, stuttery at idle. I followed the instructions to disconnect the vacuum pipes. Am I right in thinking I have to block off both the pipes coming Down from the solenoid as in the photos. The shorter pipe I have found underneath the egr has snapped of or melted off with the plastic piece that you push it on to still inside the pipe. Now I don't know where it is meant to attach as I can't see underneath. Obviously there will be a hole there underneath the egr. Will that hole cause the smoking as I have blocked off the upper part of both rubber pipes at the soleniod and the van is still smoking. Have put a grub screw in each at the solenoid. Is that correct. There is an oily substance in the large air pipe coming out of the egr. Is it a case I have to take the egr off and seal the hole where it has broken off????.
