I a number of years ago had a MK4 golf with a very similar problem........
In that I never had an interior light on opening the door..............I only discovered this was an issue with my door when after sevral months of owner ship when one evening I opened the passengers door to the interior light coming on............
Same thing Micro switch within door lock..........
I’ve just sorted this issue by rapping some tape around the u shape bit the lock shuts into on the door post got the tip off here
The door open warning kept displaying even when the near side door was closed.
I stopped the problem by wrapping some insulation tape around the bar on the door frame.
Apparently it’s a common fault with the micro switch inside the door not making proper contact so that it thinks the door is open even when it’s closed
I’ve had this problem for over a year tried this tip and hey presto sorted thanks a lot Dabhand
