Hahaha the thought had crossed my mind, unfortunately I need it for a road trip to Rome in a couple of months  big_smile

#2 Re: Maintenance » Help! » 2017-02-23 22:06:21

Ah that'll be a nice easy fix if that's all that's wrong with it, I'll have a look, thank you!

A couple of new issues have just surfaced with my little scuds,
It's a 2001 1.9D, the fuel gauge permanently shows half a tank, the warning light still comes on and the needle does go back to empty when the ignition is switched off so I don't think it's the needle motor, also the temp gauge seems to be working fine but the red warning light is coming on after a few mins of driving, and sometimes the STOP light is flashing in the centre of the dash, had the RAC out as it happened on the motorway but he couldn't find anything wrong with it and the ECU isn't registering a fault...?

#4 Re: Maintenance » Car Battery » 2016-10-19 05:45:57

Haha I know, I regretted it the moment I drove off the forecourt! I've had some form of 4x4 for the last 10 years, an estate car just feels wrong!

#5 Re: General Discussion » Replacement Comfy Driver's Seat - What Fits? - Scudo 2006 » 2016-10-18 08:54:01

I've just bought some seats from a Peugeot 806 for my fiat Scudo, the fiat ulysee and Citroen synergie are also basically the same vehicle so most parts should fit.

#6 Re: General Discussion » Unusual » 2016-10-18 08:51:55

Already insulated wink
Would make an interesting camper conversion!

#7 Re: Maintenance » Car Battery » 2016-10-18 08:47:07

It was the catalytic converter on mine, developed a hole and on a regeneration cycle heated so much that it melted the exhaust rubbers, set fire to them a scorched everything underneath, managed to put it out before it caused too much damage. Getting a decat pipe and remapped now, hopefully it's only about £500 worth of damage!

#8 Re: Maintenance » Car Battery » 2016-10-13 00:26:18

Sounds like it's on it's last legs mate, you can buy reviv-a-batt from halfrauds but to be honest you're probably only looking at an extra month at best, a new battery is probably in order.

On the plus side, my mondeo caught fire today but the battery is fine and only a month old if you need one lol

#9 Re: General Discussion » My Euro Jolly » 2016-10-07 01:02:02

I'm planning on having some dimmable 240v led strips from IKEA, there're designed for under kitchen cabinets but they'll be bright enough in the van, when I run battery power I'll only be running the standard interior lights, charging phones/iPad and maybe running a small 12v DVD player. Just need to figure out where I'll put the battery, and the best place to run the power cable to it.

For the long European trip I'll be going with somebody, but I'll be using it for the odd night away alone too I think. I'm planning on keeping it looking as van like as possible so if needs be I can park on an industrial estate and nobody will batt an eyelid at it. Once the bulkheads are out I'm thinking of just running a curtain behind the front seats.

As for site power, I've got a tent hookup which I'll just trail through the window, or possibly through the floor at the back... I've discovered an odd vent type thing in the floor behind the passenger wheelarch, I'm not sure what it's real purpose is but I plan on sealing it up with a rubber bung of some sort.

#10 Re: General Discussion » My Euro Jolly » 2016-10-06 20:47:36

Awesome, thanks! I don't have any windows in the body so no worries about rear visablilty... I don't have any anyway tongue I'm planning on taking a 2 week tour of Europe so a nice big bed is just what I need, everything I need should go under it. Mine has the half ladder bulkhead behind the drivers seat, I'm thinking of taking it out but not sure if it's structural? Would I need to add a support beam of some sort?

#11 Re: General Discussion » My Euro Jolly » 2016-10-06 08:30:09

Looks good mate! Do you have any more pics of the interior, or your build process? I'm thinking of something similar with a bed filling the entire back when it's bed time, bed takes priority over storage down the side

#12 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-10-06 08:19:44

Yeah I got them, the bloke in the scrap yard had already taken them out, apparently he was going to make some office chairs with them but couldn't be bothered lol

#13 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-10-02 16:07:52

Thanks for the tip! Just got them back home, won't have much light left so I'll give it a go next week when I've got some free time smile

#14 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-10-01 09:46:17

After a long and arduous search, I have finally located two grey velour seats from a 2002 Peugeot 806. Hopefully they will bolt into the Scudo without too many problems smile I'm picking them up on Sunday, I'm quite excited lol

The odometer has finally given up on my little van, has anybody attempted a fix? Is it easy? Or can anybody recommend a company that will fix it? I also have a problem with the fuel gauge, it registers at half a tank regardless of how much fuel is in it but the fuel light still works. The needle drops to empty with the engine off making me think it's the fuel sensor rather than the dial?

#16 Re: General Discussion » Cigarette lighter » 2016-09-23 13:46:11

Well I finally got a new fag lighter in, it took ages! Had to do a little bit of modifying to make it fit but it's in now, and works big_smile as for the gaiter, not sure what I'll do about that yet but it's definitely coming off, it looks awful!

#17 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-09-23 12:34:50

It's still a bit of a shithole to be honest  lol it's not where I would have chosen, I wanted Leeds or York but I got stuck with hull. Having said that now that I'm here, I'm living in a decent part, it could be a lot worse! Starting to get to know some of the locals, and I'm learning the language. I think they're starting to accept me as one of their own ?

#18 Re: General Discussion » Cigarette lighter » 2016-09-22 21:10:47

I fancy an 8 ball just to be a bit chavvy  tongue I'll have a look on eBay and see if I can get a new gaiter, I don't mind a bit of gluing

#19 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-09-22 21:07:21

HU13 in Hessle is good, thieving Harry's at the marina is a bit eclectic and pod, but good too, although parking is awkward there, not sure about anywhere else, I've only been here a couple of months smile

If worse comes to worst I'll think about pauper cleaning of mouldy seats but I'd prefer not to have to lol

#20 Re: General Discussion » Cigarette lighter » 2016-09-22 20:06:47

Thanks guys, I didn't think of the gear gator! That reminds me, there's not much left of the existing gator and the gear knob seems to spin freely without unscrewing, are they easy to replace with universal parts? I've never done anything like this before so it's all a learning curve but I refuse to pay somebody to do it, if it ends up looking shit, it'll be my shit  lol

#21 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-09-22 20:03:13

I would be interested mate but West Country is a bit of a hike, I'm in Hull! I have the bench seat at the moment with a lap belt

Anyone know how to remove the cigarette lighter? Mine is a bit temperamental, probably due to the previous owner depositing 16 years of compacted ash into it, so I want to take it out and replace it. I'm just not sure how to do it with it having a spring loaded ashtray cover?

#23 Re: Spare Parts » Seats » 2016-09-22 14:10:52

I haven't found anything yet, the only suitable vehicles I've found for donar parts have either already had the seats removed, or have no doors and the seats are wet and mouldy ? The quest continues...

#24 Re: General Discussion » My ride » 2016-09-13 13:03:24

It's actually going to be used for a charity banger rally next summer, we're hoping to get a lot of the parts donated. The plan is to paint it Matt black, scrub the wheels down and paint them black too. Once the rally is over I'll probably keep it Matt black but tidy it up properly. Parts so far: headlining, new real light lens, interior light, plastic rear internal wheel arch cladding (all from a taxi) £55 from a scrap yard. Haven't found any suitable seats yet, priced a ply lining kit at £40 from another scrap yard. Need to measure up timber to make the seat/bed frame/table and sort out some electrics next. External hookup is just going to be a tent hookup to keep costs down. I'll keep a diary of the build here though smile

Thought I'd share my baby with you all.

Bought for £500 from an estate clearance, only used for fishing trips, didn't have any service history but the oil looked fairly clean, battery looks recent, no evidence of the timing belt every being changed so that was the first job at £240.

Fuel gauge doesn't work but the warning light does (good enough for me for now)
Odometer packed in yesterday, probably just a bulb but need to investigate at some point
Steering seems a little twitchy, sometimes heavy, probably needs a new power steering pump and needs a good service. All in probably around £1000 by the time it's running sweet, maybe another £500-1000 to convert into a basic stealth camper
