Drugs it was then
yes pump to injectors pipes was the next to get mentioned.
probably looking at £100 worth of work to get it through the MOT mostly on the welding one skill I dont have.
You can buy a Chinese gasless mig welder for around £80. Hobby mig around 100 for 2nd hand. Plenty old washing machine sides sitting around council estates with free steel for you to practice on. Welding is a cheap fix if you can DIY so worth learning. You dont need to be neat you just need to be good enough to make the MOT man happy. I bought a gassless mig when i got my last convoy. I managed to weld up the convoy and pass two MOT's and the wifes car i welded up wheel arches where the rear belt mounts sit and get a pass. Not bod considering my bus floor was my practice
You can definitely swap a turbo Lucas and a Bosch lucas, and same for non-turbo.
As for turboing a non-turbo pump, they are different as the turbo pump has a mushroom attachment on the top of the Bosch one, so you wouldn't get more fuelling on boost if you put your J8 one in your Expert
Did i not read somewhere the pully sized differ and you need to keep the old pully off the Lucas or was i taking drugs that night?
I had an old defender on a long term loan. Not Shure of engine size but it was an old Perkins Diesel. Bloody worse motor i have had the misfortune to drive
I could not get the seat back far enough to drive comfortable. It was so noisy you could not hear the stereo at full volume and the steering was all over the place but then its no rack n pinion is it. Just the old steering box what was probably shot. Got that steering in my Convoy what is waaayyyyy better than the Land rover was.
You on about wanting a bigger van eventually. Pre covid you could get a convoy from a 500 quid with an MOT. 1000 for a maxus in reasonable nick. Van prices just now are crazy as every bugger wants to be a courier or make a camper. Once folk start heading to the sun again like it was before i think there will be a lot of cheap vans around
That hole looks like a missing door stay. Im sure they are just held in with a roll pin. Yours looked like the winds took it out someone's hand and blew open ripping that out at the same time. I have had two of these vans with the same engine. Clutch was just higher than middle when mine started to bite. They are very under powered (71 ish BHP) and crap on fuel unless you stick to 55/60 on a run. I always averaged 35mpg. My first one was an Expert what i made a camper out of. Took that down the black forest Germany then up to Holland for a bike rally and TBH the wee van never missed a beat. Apart from overheating the brakes on a mountain decent it was brilliant fun. My 2nd one (Dispatch) was used for work and i threw everything at that van and many a time to heavy a load and again it was flawless. Only changed stuff that you would need to change regardless. Battery, exhaust and the likes. Since moved on as i wanted a larger camper so got a Coachsmith convoy now and my work van is a Maxus. Looks like you are parked next to on in your picture.
Only think i could think of that does not lock when the male female are together is probably Anderson plug/sockets but you would need two but it making them waterproof. What about the male/female Commando plugs and cutting away any locking lugs to allow them to slip apart.
Yellow card over steering wheel with Hook Up printed in bold. Cant say i have did this myself but did take off on a motorbike with the chain still hooked through the back wheel. Lost three spokes that day
Morning guys,
Can anyone tell me if there are any alloy wheels that are a perfect fit for my 2004 dispatch facelift mk1 please.
Thanks in advance
Do a wee search of the site mate its been spoken about a few times. I think it was alfa romeo wheels most common used but cant remember what model
Some of the early Pug ones it was just a simple case of ignition on. Disarm and take the multiplug out the back. Start engine and that was it.
I find myself without one of these lovely wee vans for the 2nd time and feel a bit of an outsider now but having said that. Im sticking around just to annoy you
Merry Christmas folks

Probably to late but how about the crank shaft sensor? This was the issue of non starting on my Volvo and sometimes Maxus. Its not an expensive item to just try for the sake of elimination.
My convoy MOT was up in November. As its the same time as my Maxus and VW i decided to leave it longer to split MOT dates up. Thought last week i was chancing my luck as its in the street. Organised storage but the location was/is 15 miles away down the A1 and i pass a ANPR camera. Bright idea was get it booked for an MOT and fail i can still drive it away from MOT station and worry about it come the spring. List of advisory's from last year, made no checks this year not even look at the lights just put it in expecting the fail. Well did the bloody thing not pass
Still took it to storage area though as i wont use it till the weather turns for the better
What a wee shame. Good luck on the cash flow front and your next van adventure
When i changed mine on the 1.9 due to crap cold starts it made no difference. I ended up just waiting for the relay to click off rather than the light. Think 27 seconds but would go for a 2nd cycle if really cold. I have a Maxus as a work van as well as my Convoy camper. The Maxus hates cold and its always a double cycle but also they say dont use throttle. I can drain the battery if i dont use throttle
Look up under the dash at break peddle. You will have a plunger type switch what tends to be screw up/down to adjust. It may have vibrated loose or wire plug fell off
Another thought is the MAF sensor. Its just at the airbox on the pipe leading to EGR. If that is dirty or faulty then it will be giving false reading to the ECU what will be making the fuel to air ratio wrong. Two rich will give black smoke.

thanks for the reply whats the best way to check which injector is faulty and could the injectors be clogged.
thanks again
Not sure TBH as unlike my van what are electronically controlled so it would just be unplug one at a time.

I made a wooden rock n roll bed for when i had my Expert. Part built we had to go to Manchester for a wedding but there was no spare rooms going at the wife's mothers. We decided to use the sleeping bags and just kip in the van on her drive. Got there fine and parked up what was a slight slope forward what was no great deal but... The bloody nylon bags on a ply bed meant we kept sliding forward during the night. Must have got woke up every two hours or so when our legs were curling up on the back of the front seats. Ordered levelling ramps when i got home.
Were you listening to Kraftwerk at the time. They recorded some strange stuff in the early days
Van floor here. and a pair of levelling ramps but even then it would have to be really uneven ground for me to use them.
Thanks again for your replies. Will try and source some gearbox stop leak in a car parts shop here and give it a go. It's a real gamble trying to guess how much I'm losing without a level plug. It's not dripping onto ground, but as I understand it, driveshaft leaks tend to throw the oil around when driving and not drip when stationery - like an engine oil leak would do. So it could be deceptive as you don't see oil on the ground where you park, so think you're not losing much. If I wipe the oil off bottom of bell housing before a drive, there's some more on there after a drive.
If all goes wrong, I'll be after a new gearbox!
How is the engine oil? Reason i ask if all you have is a wet patch after a drive it could also be the crank shaft oil seal as that will drip from the bellhousing. It could also explain first gear judder when taking up drive. TW try not to be dripping oil in Germany. Your motor can be impounded
Me thinks sombedy else has broken it in the distant past....araldite around the niple....
Yip but lucky for me there was three in a local scrap yard at the time
Only taking on the prognosis and not looking at the car I actually bought discs and pads many moons ago for my then missus car. As It was thought the grinding noise was brake pads down to metal on her car it turned out to be a piece of gravel off the drive had found its way into and lodged in the disc area. Needless to say the discs and pads went on the shelf for the next year or so as there was plenty meat on her brakes ..................
That has happened to me a few times. Fast ish reverse and hard breaking seems to dislodge them easy enough.
