What does the white smoke smell of ? that is the big clue, leaking seal? could be as losing compression and not burning the diesel in one of the cylinders,, have a look around the injectors for signs of leakage (easy fix if you get the injector out)
White smoke has two common causes unburnt diesel (timing out , dodgy glowplug if just on start up)) also steam ,caused by water getting in the cylinders(head gasket or crack in cyliderhead or block,, hope this helps
if it dosent smell like steam and just diesel get the belt done and timing checked
HDI that will go like the clappers :-) but rather stick with the basic 1.9d for reliabilty
It might be worth looking for a WAV at a breakers or a taxi as mine already had a internal rear door handle, if you still want one
You can get at it from above , Two bolts if memory serves

Search the flea bay and breakers for a 806/ ulysees /synergie there seats are a strait bolt in swap
Will they open from the inside? my nearside one sticks sometimes, are the locks spinning if opens from the inside it will just need the barrels changing they are quite cheap on ebay , these vans a known for weak locks

I have a space between the gas bottle and plastic water tank, that keeps my beers cold and food fresh! I did the same in my VW T3
I did alot of reserch into seats when sorting out mine, i decidid to bide my time and wait for some out of a 806 im glad that i did asthey are designed to fit! well made and come with aremrests :-) , Casper the handbrake lever drops down you pull up then pull on the button,, but when swapping seats make shure its in gear as the brake mount is on the base
I learned quickly that you are either in the sleeping bag or cooking or brewing up! if i want to tale the chill off i put the stove on low to take the chill out , but not when im sleeping

Make shure you have a socket set with good Torx bits the outside pair of bolts on both seats are exposed to weather so plenty of wd or plusgas(i strped the head of one of mine) but still was just a couple of hours for both , drivers side was a bit fiddly with handbrake but all goes together perfectly
