Car park at Wharton Crag. I think it now has no overnighting signs and height barriers but as I have been using it for decades I claim usage rights. Peregrine's, little owl and ravens nesting on the crag. Good walks if you don't mind hills.
Also nearby is a secluded nature reserve cp near the railway line. Turn off to coast just near level crossing.
I particularly like Jenny Browns Point. Awkward spot at end of lane with no passing places. Tiny pitch with no level at gated entry to field that is the only turning point at the end of the lane. Good for evening arrival and be willing to move if it gets busy during the day. Great sunsets and view across the bay and a bench to sit on and enjoy them.
Used to be a great spot along the front next to Red Bank Farm but since the camp site developed I think there are now no overnighting.signs.
Similar around Arnside. There used to be camping on a couple of beaches, but I think it's been stoped now. Good place to park up for the day though right on the beach.
"Vanlife" is eating itself!
Please excuse this off topic rant. I have just concluded a 6 week battle with ebay after they ripped me off for £140. If I billed them just for my time wasted, it would be four times the value of the item. And as for the stress...
the other thing, that is new, is that in July 2020, green cards can be sent via pdf, and printed by customers.

While that may be convenient for some people in some circumstances, but doesn't anyone else resent the increasing hours of unpaid admin we are expected to put in on behalf of the state and corporations?
It's increasingly assumed that everyone has the expensive equipment, the ability to use it effectively, the time, and the inclination, to work hours for free in the interests of both state and corporate,, whose only purpose is to extract as much money as possible from us.
British gas are currently charging me a higher standing charge than the cost of gas I use. Yet still constantly pestering me to read the meter for them! The government, despite taking my tax for 50 years and now paying my pension, don't believe I exist because I don't have any photo id. Same with banks, even facebook.
No tech = total exclusion.
I play this loud when I get my pass:-

You might find something in the manuals section:-

Mine had a pair of plastic tweezers in the fuse box to pull the fuses. Worked well but now lost.
Only guessing but I would suspect it's a breather.
Dis you hose into the scuttle to make sure the drains worked? They are long rubber tubes and can be blocked right down the bottom. You don't want any pooling in there.
Yours isn't a pop top by any chance?
Mine is and it has about 3" upstand all around the sides and rear. If parked back end down in rain it fills up with gallons. When you set of and the van levels, it tips it all straight down the screen and can overwhelm the drains.
As tee-cee suggests, check out the thick under carpet, it can hold liters of water sealed against the floor.
I removed mine and rust cured and painted while in there. The mat was so heavy with water I could hardly lift it. Took about a week to dry out in a greenhouse.
If you ever find a Yamaha 50 Giggle, Vox, or whatever with decent front end plastics and ignition loom, please grab it. A bit scarce though.
Are these still available?
Original post almost 5 years ago.
I doubt it.
Not only tight, but also knowledgeable.
Glad you stuck around despite downgrading the van.

I don't know anything at all about your idea re switching power supply to the relay.
But it sounds like you may be correct in suggesting an old anti theft device as being the problem.
Do you have still have the keypad for the anti theft device? Originally fitted behind a pull down panel low down in the dash to the right of the steering wheel.
If it is this system, as fitted on my 1998 van, I believe the only way to permanently disable it involves physically breaking the "electrical apparatus" you mention. I doubt there is a simple electrical hack to bypass it. If you have discovered one, I am sure many, including me, would be very grateful.
I am wondering if someone may have changed the pump for one which can more reliably run on veg oil. Without realising it they may also have fitted the business end of an engine immobiliser without fitting the means to disable it?
Please wait for someone better informed than me before you reach for the grinder.
At first glance it looks like West Yorkshire by the sea.
But of course it can't be.
There should also a bottom plastic nut.
The studs often strip off though so perhaps look out for a bodged fixing somewhere if it's not there.
Mostly good then.
Strange about the leds, Mine has been ok for years. A few dead cells now but only very cheap ebay ones.
Not sure if you need an auto electrician or an exorcist
Intermittent electrical problems are bad enough but such apparently unrelated ones are baffling.
The wiper parking position should I think be controlled mechanically by the position of the blade on the splines. The motor has a fixed arc of travel and parking is decided by the position the blades are fitted. Have you tried resetting the parking position and then checking the travel is ok?
The key fob sounds like a bad circuit in the fob.
The flashing lights though I think are defiantly a poltergeist.
Been quiet here lately but hopefully someone else may be along with suggestions.
Any clues here:-
I have mentioned in previous blower threads that even after replacing my blower (and resistor) unit I still get occasional power loss. This is instantly cured by gently moving the thick stiff bundle of wires feeding it.
So my problem is likely to be either a bad contact inside the block connector, or a break in the live wire bound up in the loom somewhere. Both entirely understandable as I have suffered the waterfall through the blower from blocked scuttle drains in the past. And that inflexible bunch of wires does take stick when camping gear is stuffed in the footwell.
I live with giving it a wiggle when required.
Wot no roof tent?
What will they do when the rhinos charge!
If you not too far away I could always pop past in the MK4 golf today/tomorrow.
Not there myself yet, still in the Dales. Will be up there by mid week.
No need to drop them off, it was just if you happened to be in the area. I will be going to Peebles at some time while up that way so that might be best time.
You may have noticed from the above that blower problems are among the most common and annoying on these vehicles.
You would think then that we might have arrived at a common, instant fix. Unfortunately not.
Apart from the rubbish slider controls the next most common suspect is the resistor mounted on the blower itself. But even replacing that has not been a resolution in all cases. I can't remember the details but if you read through past posts on heater problems you should find something on diagnosing the resistor.
If you do need to go for a replacement resistor you might even find a complete new blower for a similar price on ebay. I went for a new unit as mine was also sounding like the bearing was on it's way out.
That would be great, thanks. No rush unless they are in your way.
I expect to be at St Mary's Loch from around the 12th Feb for at least a few weeks. You could drop them off there if you happen to be on a trip. Nice quiet pitch with hookup so no worries about split charge if you bring a fan heater. All fees covered by me of course.
Otherwise I could come to you during that time.
Something like this?

In fact, considering the noise, I should probably have the CV too if it fits.
I think they are the same across :- 1.9TD 2.0 HDi DIESEL 1996-2006 but wondered if the ABS mattered.
Anyone confirm?
I will take the wheel bearing and am desperate for a near side mirror Stu if you find them.
Happy to pay fair price and able to collect.
Yet to see any of the fabled LWB variants they had as an option in Europe
If you find any, bring me one back.
