Re: ecu location

If yours is the 1905cc XUD9 turbo engine, you don't have an ECU

What are you looking to do?

Re: ecu location

Hello Kenbw2, thank you for your reply which confirms my futile search. I am trying to get diesel to the injectors, I originally thought it was because air was getting in through the throttle shaft which was leaking diesel, I have replaced the throttle shaft and O ring but it wasn't that. I've replaced the two solenoid cut off valves on the pump but still no diesel to the injectors. As the van has no ecu can I pair the bottom solenoid which does have power when the ignition is on with the top rear solenoid  which has four wires going to an electrical apparatus attached around it and which I am thinking is some kind of anti theft device which could be faulty. I would hopefully be overriding the anti theft device. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: ecu location

I don't know anything at all about your idea re switching  power supply to the relay.

But it sounds like you may be correct in suggesting an old anti theft device as being the problem.

Do you have still have the keypad for the anti theft device?  Originally fitted behind a pull down panel low down in the dash to the right of the steering wheel.

If it is this system, as fitted on my 1998 van, I believe the only way to permanently disable it involves physically breaking the "electrical apparatus" you mention.  I doubt there is a simple electrical hack to bypass it.  If you have discovered one, I am sure many, including me, would be very grateful.

I am wondering if someone may have changed the pump for one which can more reliably run on veg oil.  Without realising it they may also have fitted the business end of an engine immobiliser without fitting the means to disable it?

Please wait for someone better informed than me before you reach for the grinder.

Re: ecu location

a friend had that funny 4 wire thing on his fuel pump we eventually found it more easy to replace the injector pump than mess around with it (he wanted to change it anyway for "higher gains") after that he never had to use the keypad again (even though it all still worked and lifted a now disconnected immobiliser when the right pin was input)

i did find a wiring diagram for that funny 4 wire thing somewhere ill see if i can find it.

dono if this will help:

also be sure you are not getting air leak into the fuel filter housing. i had this with my old 306 sw. i ended up bypassing the original filter and using an in line filter from a VW (i had one at the time)

Re: ecu location

Thank you for the advice one and all. We have owned the van for a number of years and it is all original mechanically and did not have a security keypad fitted. I can only think that the electronic apparatus fitted to the rear stop solenoid has a malfunction so will remove the back of the pump and wire in a bypass and see what happens. I will add the results of this to the discussion group afterwards. I will also double check the filter seal as suggested. Thanks again.

Re: ecu location

Be sure your stop soliniod has not gone sticky and stopping fuel flowing to injectors

Re: ecu location

Hello all, my story continues, I was in the process of removing the rear fuel pump solenoid when the back of the pump fell off and all the interior workings dropped out!
I found another pump for 150€ fitted it and the van started and ran...hooray... my brother came round and I very proudly went to start it again but it wouldn't fire up ..... I got my circuit tester light and found there was no power getting to the bottom fuel solenoid, as it was late I dropped the bonnet and left it until the next day.  I checked the circuit again and found there was power to the solenoid and the van started started immediately. Obviously I have an intermittent electrical fault.
Has anyone experienced the same problem or have an idea of a likely cause?  Thank you.
