Hi folks,

As part of our general plans to upgrade the site and forum here - we are moving to a new host and server this week.

All being well - you won't notice a thing - but you might catch us offline for short periods.

Please let us know of any issues you come across by replying here.

FYI - in the near future we should be adding HTTPS SSL security and it is our hope to migrate to a more modern forum platform later this year.

Thanks for your patience smile

#178 Re: General Discussion » dispatch smoking..! » 2018-02-23 13:27:45

Hi woodrow - I'm not particularly mechanically minded - but my turbo started to go at around 145k. One of the earliest symptoms was a bit of dark smoke when you put the foot down which got steadily worse over a year or so. Recon replacement turbo was under £500 fitted.

Cheers Casper - Flarum is free & open-source smile and the migration route makes that platform very attractive. It looks like it will come out of BETA this year. Only thing I pay for here is hosting and the adverts cover that.

#180 Re: General Discussion » This forum needs HTTPS » 2018-02-21 22:05:07

You're both absolutely spot on:

kenbw2 - The forum will move to a new host very soon at which point we will be adding HTTPS / SSL certificate. Many thanks for your offer of help - that's much appreciated.
Casper - I see you've just passed the 1000 posts mark! To celebrate - I'll see if I can hack this old beast to open external links in a new tab :-)

The software we currently run on is no longer developed (although security patches are still offered when appropriate) - however the plan is still to migrate to Flarum (being developed by the same people) once it's out of BETA. It looks good and promises a migration route from the software we're on right now which will make life a LOT easier than if we were to migrate to other platforms.

Really pleased with how this forum has grown over the years (at least 33% Casper's doing!) and I do want to provide a better environment for our users - as soon as Flarum is live I'll set about it.

Ta muchly for the feedback  big_smile

You're right - it's BLOODY awkward!

I can't remember the exact location - but I'm pretty sure it's one of the chunky fuses in the box under the bonnet.

If one of them's blown - it should be pretty obvious.

#183 Re: Maintenance » Acceleration hesitation on HDi Dispatch » 2018-01-05 10:33:18

I'd agree with Vaz - try the MAF first as there's no harm in doing so.

Disconnect the MAF sensor plug (comes out right-hand-side of the exit pipe from the air filter - disconnecting this does not cause engine light to come on on my HDi despite reports to the contrary) go for a drive, and if the problem goes away - then replace the MAF (you can get them cheap on ebay, mixed reviews but some swear by them) or £85 from EuroCarParts.

It's safe to leave it disconnected in the meantime if it makes you happier - worst that will happen is that your MPG will go down a fraction - but I've never found it to be a noticeable change.

333 miles from home .. Headlight lamp blown .. Went to open bonnet and nothing happening.

The lever feels loose but sound like it's gone at the catch end as I can hear it moving under the bonnet.

I'll be fine getting up the road but wondered if anyone has a trick to get the bonnet open?

Success! Two years without a heater finally sorted out with an hour's graft  big_smile

Bought a resistor for just £21 as per OAT's good advice: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-JUMP … 1438.l2649

Shuggs - thanks a million - your instructions were spot on. Only thing for me was that I had to hack-saw off a bit of [unused] plastic bracket at the back of the fusebox as the motor wasn't going to come out while that was there.

Maybe there was another way - but no harm done!

I have a sneaking suspicion that the spade connectors were perhaps already disconnected before I got the motor out. I had to tighten both quite a bit when connecting the new one so they were secure. So that might have been the issue all along. The old resistor was a mess though and the new part was there to go in so off we went.

Such a great feeling to have warm air flowing in the van again!

Ta muchly all for your help.

I've never understood quite what the failure is as the latch seems good and springy, yet somehow contrives to work its way out, sometimes on quite a short trip.

Exactly this! The door closes very snugly, the bolt extends fully and there's no obvious play in any direction but the back doors pop out within 5 minutes of leaving the house.

I've never been able to fathom it.  I'm now considering adding an additional bolt as Casper suggested.

Luthier, I had a visit up to Scotland a couple of weeks ago and got 45mpg out of it.

I live in Scotland and can confirm that we get 45mpg here devil

My HDi van's at ~160k and I've replaced a fair amount of stuff on it since I got it at ~125k.

But only the turbo itself was HDi-specific - everything else was generic stuff: brakes, suspension, steering, alternator, timing belt.

Recon turbo was under £500 fitted - I've spent way more on suspension / steering over the course.

There are a lot of these vans still around, many with high mileage, so reliability not necessarily always an issue.

I totally see the appeal of the 1.9d simplicity and if I had to quickly and cheaply replace my HDi I'd be tempted by one on decent mileage.

But the HDi has a surprisingly pleasing punch to it and with care, they can last.

Hey fella - I've set it to paginate at 25 posts now - just for you :-P

Not heard from J for a bit so not sure if he got sorted - I think I'm turning into a recluse up here in the hills!

Yep sorreeee folks ...

This happened before where this site suffered badly from slow responses to page requests.

Both the hosts and myself tried to get to the bottom of it last night until at one point, it just started behaving again.

Apologies again - will try to keep a bit more of an eye on things!

#199 Re: General Discussion » MOT » 2016-10-20 10:09:21

Well I've moved to the Castle Douglas area for a start, which has been a big and very welcome move. Been in Glasgow for 20 years and have loved it to bits but was ready to move to a more rural location.

Broke my ankle coming off a hill on Kerrera, a wee island just off Oban. Missed the last ferry so got patched up by an emergency nurse and spent the night in the Dispatch.

4 days in hospital and 3 hours in surgery.

Home now and being well looked after smile
