From what you explained - 800 notes is very reasonable for the work need be done, I'm in (or was) very much after the vehicle like it... Slowly growing and accepting, just not for me, no longer. Turns out they do get very troublesome once they start going wrong and eternally expensive to repair
Your Q? - how much for... I'd say stick it for a 900, be reasonably honest and most likely you'll get a plonker to take it off your hands (like me), but I've found few as low as 600, with many unknowns in it, but list of troubles for a new owner is literally draw of a luck, if one buys those. If someone is keen, but makes you an offer- take it, but I, at least- changed my mind about MK2 vehicles, as if they are worth what owners think they are.

The headers (Maintenance) etc should be indicating Mk1, Mk1 Facelift- blank, but MK2 and MK3 should say so MK2 General or MK3 Maintenance ?

yes, MK2 is ever so slightly but bigger...

TBH, so many shades of white on that van (was cloudy anyway), I'm certain it was a write off at some stage, meaning, should've done online check on that too.
Now, I'm seriously peed off at myself to not to have checked SN numbers and things like it, as he only had a copy of V5... whole can of possible worms (scenarios there), could've taken pics of SN's etc and given a heads up to FUZZ to "inquire" about it all... as in the "yard" there were other 3 cars and two vans, that he wasn't saying if they are his or not etc etc.

Herm, I'll leave this to the better mechanically minded experts here, to me sounds a bit like belt snapping (partial shredding), that perhaps even water pump start clanking and then stopping...
