Recommend Oil Filter Tool Please

I've had my 2004 Scudo 2.0 JTD for 13 years now and changed the oil and filter every 4000 miles. Every time I struggle to undo the filter with a plumbing type strap wrench which keeps slipping and only just gets the filter undone after a lot of swearing. There's very little room to get hands or tools onto the filter. I have a Draper strap wrench as in link below which is useless for this as you can't get a socket ratchet onto the tool to turn the strap.

Can anyone suggest a good filter removal tool for the 2.0 JTD/HDI engines that will fit into the space available?

Many thanks.

These are good, always oil the rubber o ring on the filter when fitting.

Thanks, they look good - good value too. Always put a smear of oil on the seal before the new filter goes in. I only do it hand tight, but struggle to loosen it when it's time for old one to come off. Been using plumbers strap wrenches, but there's so little room to get around the filter that they keep slipping. Finally they bite just enough to break the seal - but not until a lot of swearing has taken place.

Re: Recommend Oil Filter Tool Please

I've tried all sorts of filter removal tools with varying success or not................
Got the belt strap you've shown and this version also..........
oil-filter-belt.jpg

Seem to remember I burst the strap within 5 mins of the first use.......
I used a section of old seat belt as a repair and is kicking about somewhere...........

Also have like a big cup/socket thing with a 1/2" drive that fits over filter along with a few of those 3 legged claw things that (I'm forever breaking) are meant to grip tighter the more you exert those were mostly used on the bike as the oil filter invariably seem to live in-beside the exhaust down pipes.......

There was also some filters I used that came with a hex welded on top for assisting removal with a socket.....

I got a set of those oil filter pliers that Steve the Grease suggested.........
But I must be getting weak in my old age.........
For whatever reason I allways seem to gravitate back too the big (Plumbers) grips we've got...........
(This idea .....with larger jaws section to grip filter)
big-grips.jpeg

I must admit same idea as filter pliers but much larger and more expensive for essentially a very large pair of adjustable pliers/grips.......

(I must have first used a set 30+ yrs ago when helping a fitter service a Lorry [quite a few lorries have two large oil filters and a Spinner also] heading abroad and I've have stuck with them.........

If it works for you.... "You pay your money ---- make your choice"

I use one of these

Does the trick, though I always forget which way around it's meant to go
