07 dispatch charging fault

Hi, my dispatch has stopped charging. Charge light goes on and goes out when running but voltage at battery is only 12v. When wipers are put on the voltage drops to 11.5v. also there are 2 small yellow wires coming from alternator but only 1 is connected. Any help appreciated.

Re: 07 dispatch charging fault

looks like your charging system has been hacked up pretty good. that red wire is not standard. i am not sure about the 2x small brown wires, my advice would be to see if in that crimp theres evidence that both of the brown wires were connected into it, then redo the crimp if so.

i know some alternators are able to output more voltage if the battery voltage is low and to help compensate voltage drop through cables. not sure if these have it.

hope this helps in some way..

Re: 07 dispatch charging fault

Looked like it could have been joined at some time. Reconnected it but no difference. Can anyone confirm if this looks like the right alternator and if so, what are the 2 yellow wires. Annoying that the excitor light goes out to indicate charging but only getting a smidge over 12v at the battery on the multimeter

Update: Just checked and getting 14.2v between B+ and Ground but still no charge voltage at the battery.

Re: 07 dispatch charging fault

hmm not sure if these have a fuse in line with the alternator and battery..  worth checking.

otherwise i could be a faulty cable. maybe the crimp has failed. i guess an simple fix is to just run a new cable from B+ and the positive battery clamp.
