Brenda gets Celotexed

'04 Dispatch HDI. Sticky back foam soundproofing, stick pins and 12.5mm celotex. The conversion begins....can't go any further until I've had my inner sills patched, for obvious reasons. But it's a start (now into the tenth year of ownership with this van)20200916_210348.jpegmini_20200916_210348.jpeg20200828_140036.jpegmini_20200828_140036.jpeg

Re: Brenda gets Celotexed

Not sure why the photos uploaded twice but anyway?
Second photo is the floor I made up at work, free plywood, battens, carpet glue, 12.5mm celotex, used the original plywood floor as template.

And yup...before anyone mentions it, this will all be sealed in with a vapour barrier ... soon

OK.... I'll bite

Stick my foot up my Ar**.........in my Mouth! ............

"I assume the floor pattern with celotext ....what WE are seeing is the underneath other wise it'll all go flat with usage otherwise need a layer of ply to spread weight"..........

Re: Brenda gets Celotexed

I used thin plywood battens between the celotex sheets to spread the weight from above

Re: Brenda gets Celotexed

Nice to see someone doing similar but different to me. Your way looks quicker!

What are stick pins? I assume the things with corks on? Some way of holding the celotex while the glue dries?

Re: Brenda gets Celotexed

They're good, you stick them to the inner bodywork then ram the celotex down onto them. It can be tricky lining it up so best to take some time over this.

No need to glue the celotex; once you push the clip down the pin shafts, it grips very tightly. You then snip the pin off with pliers. I've stuck corks on the tips to prevent getting stabbed in the head....they're very sharp :-)

Ah, makes sense. Does sound easier than trying to fix panels while glue sets.

I wouldn't mind doing the trip up to Lofoten in North Norway, via Sweden. But a lot of practice lies ahead first...

Very much along the lines as I would...............

I had a notion of flying to iceland a hiring one of those KUKU vans? for a week or so but Apparently your not insured to go on the gravel or F roads in the interior without paying through the nose for insurance .............

Apart from needing to drive to Denmark for a ferry and the Fare for the van return is in the region of two thousands euro's time of year dependant and then Iceland with just about every country you'd want to travel to {for this year anyway} is on the restiction list............

Last year somwhere about MOT time as I was needing a couple.....I put a Set of M+S tyres on van as it's a winter road requirement thing over there and thinking and planning a (failed... circumstance) trip to Jokkmokk  (Sweden) and on to Abisko National park (funds and time permiting).................

They say the Lofoten isles are not to be missed even if things around that location are a little pricey...........

I've always fancied Nord-Cap but told the price  is absolutly horrendous to enter the peninsular  when you arrive and look to stop and do the touristy thing

I dout if I'm ever going to see the aurora borealis properly and in all it's glory it's off to Orkney or the Shetlands again but this time in more wintery conditions

It was active last night and could even be seen from Edinburgh.

The Lofoten isles are definitly something you should try out, despite the Norwegian prices. But do in the summer, or you will miss out on the midnight sun...

It's typical I heard also you could see it around Loch Lomond..........

I never seem to be out at the right time and we're getting into the season for it with the right conditions.........

I did a while ago see it at Portencross near Seamill but was more like a snotty faint cloud but did show well on camera otherwise I wouldn't have really believed it ........

I aslo saw it when watching Shetland TV and their Up Helly Aa......... But would love to see it all clear and dancing while under it with naked eye.........

Re: Brenda gets Celotexed

All interesting stuff, will look up these destinations.

Won't be going anywhere till the engine is properly sorted though. I bought a used DW10 from a supplier in Burnley a year ago and had a mate fit it. It's basically strong and smooth - new turbo helps with that - but there is a clattery top-end sound, like a mk3 Cortina taxi in the 70s. Weird and annoying. You can hear a tappety noise when accelerating, especially under bridges or when driving past high walls.

Been told it is probably an injector. Should I worry - anyone had this issue?

Maybe this should be in the maintenance thread..

Wouldn't want the engine to blow up in Sweden or somewhere

The difference being that there is loads to see on route. Sweden has very nice scenery - however it's always the same scenery.

I had a 307 Hdi with a whole host of issues one being a starting issue with an injector not holding up to the required pressure and leaking ...............
Cut a long story shorter I managed to change it with  a correct matching numbered used injector that turned out to be on the ticky side when working........
It didn't seem to hinder the car one bit but I cant say about long term as another issue rose it's head or several over a period and I cut my losses and parted company ..........

It's been discussed here before for a different issue ....

Use of a mechanics stethoscope.............

Or use a long screwdriver or such placing one end on an injector or supect item/area the other end at ear and see if it's replicating the noise you hear farther up rev range.............

I've no idea if this could be milage related...........
Is it hydraulic lifters, bucket and shim or screwdriver..spanner and feeler guage
I suspect hydraulic and could have a dead lifter or more wear than adjustment..........

Without actually hearing seeing even then a pronosis is all speculation
