Re: 1996 1.9 expert in tank fuel pump

As far as I'm aware there is no in-tank pump for the 1.9. My 1.9TD definitely doesn't.

There is a sender unit but it's nothing clever. Are you having issues?

See if you can find some spark plugs for your diesel while you're at it  smile

I'd start with the fuel filter. I had this a while ago and that fixed it

Next is to see if fuel is getting to the engine. Crack the injectors, see if fuel comes out

If it's struggling to start, it might be glow plugs, which would make sense if it's started doing this now it's cold

If it's still cutting out, it could be the engine fuel pump

Re: 1996 1.9 expert in tank fuel pump

Bleed the injectors. Get a mate to crank engine over when you open number one at the pipe on top. When you get fuel shut it off. Do the same with two, three and four. If now running fine your garage is crap. Give it five and see if it starts again. All OK go for a spin. If it wont start a few hours later air is getting in the fuel system. Changed the filter lately as the plastic sealing ring can be a right bugger to fit properly.
