Hello,
Can anyone kindly tell me what the correct tyre pressure is for my unladen 2004 Citroen Dispatch van (with roof rack)?
When I had a look in the Citroen Berlingo and Partner Haynes manual it showed a whole host of varying tyre pressure which ended up confusing me.
Thanks.

Should say on the side of your driver's door, if you open it and look at the edge is there a sticker with tyre pressures?

My van is always full of tools and find anything between 37 - 40 psi it drives nice. Lower it starts to wallow on the bends.

Oh really...I'll have to have a look tomorrow. Thank for the info.
@Casper
That sounds reasonable considering my Seat Ibiza is around 32 PSI. Cheers for the heads up.

just had a quick google and i had "2.5 BAR / 36 PSI" come up. it does depend on the weight you have in also.
im actually looking at getting new tyres for my van.. i didnt know but they are only "G" speed rated! which is 56mph!

Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".

I didn't know such a thing existed (this G speed rating you talk of).
My van has shite tyres on them ... but they do have some decent thread left on them. When it comes to changing them I will make sure to buy decent branded ones. Surely that will go some way at the speed you can go at.
What tyres do you have in mind for your van? and reasons? as this will provide insight for when I buy mine.

I'm sure in my Handbook it quotes 36psi as johnDragonMan says....
But like Casper I find running 40 psi Van behaves better ..........
Although classed as empty most of time I think we'd be surprised how much weight a converted Van is carrying all the time .........

I finally managed to inflate my tyres to 2.6 bar and hopefully there will be a dramatic improvement to the mpg. Some of the tyres where at 2.2 bar (I think).
My mates Peugeot expert seemed to be amazing on mpg whereas the Dispatch seems shite....so far anyway.
What MPG are you fellas been finding on average? My mile counter display doesn't fully work so I can't gauge mine sadly.
Offline
2003 1.9D i get an average of 35. 39 on a run and sitting at around 65mpg. FFS i have a sick engine 4.1 Tonne bus getting 29. My last Expert i took down the Black forest. Same engine and almost identical MPG.

Van is a 2005 1.9D DW8/B ....I return dodging about usually 36 - 37MPG ............
On a run and last twice out to Spain 40. something but close to 41MPG running at 60 - 65 for the journey and all on National routes .......................
No peage/toll roads......................
The 306 also But the earier DW8 ...............40ish dodging about.........
usually on a M/Way run at 65 -70MPH .....49ish MPG..........
The best I ever got out the 306 but I never broke 55MPH and again on French National route via Reims was 57MPG.....
{I was convinced fuel guage was faulty as I'd filled up in Adinkerk, Belgium and was still showing Half a tank at Clermont Ferrand where we usually have to refuel....... It was back to 49 -50 Mpg on A 75 Motoway and after though}

Sounds good that. You can try and ride behind a large vehicle in front - as I believe that improves ones MPG.
@casper
35 - 36 seems to be the average MPG. Hmm I can't work mine out due to the intermittent mileage dash ... dang!

Brim it then use the sat nav to go somewhere 50 miles away and back. Sat nav will give you the miles. Brim tank again and work out from there. Just remember there is 4.54lt to the gallon not 5lt like many people think. I blame the plastic jerry can

@casper
Sounds like a plan Einstein.... but... what exactly do you mean by brim it? (fill it to the brim?)

Yes

Cheers mate.

I'm not sure 50 miles is enough to judge MPG, not with the accuracy of the pump click. Even if only half a litre different, that's an accuracy of +-10MPG
Brimming is an act of extreme patience. I don't go off the pump click for this reason, I fill it, let it settle, fill, settle. It takes about 10 minutes of trickling it in till it literally pours out the top. Worth it? Maybe not, but I'm a man of science
I had a trip round Europe a couple of years ago, averaged about 38mpg in my DW8.
Also did a very careful 200 mile 50mph motorway run from Scotland in my 1.9TD, I got about 48MPG

Good MPG considering its a van.
I forgot to mention my weight of vehicle does include a permanent roof rack.

The more miles and more times filling the tank the nearer the truer MPG returns you'll see............
And I just convert using 4.5L to gallon mostly in my sums to get a ball park closeish figure............
Tranzformer: sounds like it's time to remove Binnacle And then access the Mileage LCD clean contacts or replace Binnacle for a good used one ...........
I'm on my third or fourth in 6 ish yers of ownership ... these Binnacles a for sh**

I'm bad at maths so remembering the formula to work out the MPG eludes me. I did it a lo ng while back!
Would you care to give me a quick refresher on your method of working the MPG out?
With regards to the binnacle and cleaning or even taking it out.... seems very complicated considering I am not a hands on kinda guy. I do however have a Halfords 170 socket set.
Where are there good instructions on how to get to the binnacle... if any available?

Every time you had replaced the binnacle, did it remember the correct mileage? I am guessing the binnacle takes the mileage reading from the CPU?

The original Binnacle in the Van just gave up the ghost entirely and only thing working from memorey was speedo ...........
It was replaced after sending new one off to a place in Stirling, For recalibration of mileage a once over and Mot copy to verify miles........
Was in van for a good 2 -3 yrs....
not 100% sure I remember all what all happened but..................
Mileage reading stopped working so changed again...............
(I've got a funny feeling little use and pretty much no use through winter has got something to do with failure rate)
I changed it again about two years ago and lazily approx 3-4 days before MOT booking..........
But replacement ended up also no show on mileage...............
Speedo stopped working (Didn't notice) on way to Mot and got a pass with no mileage showing, But on way home for some reason after pulling away from road works traffic lights both the speedo and the mileage were working again.......
An neighbour of my partner has a Dispatch.. Expert ... Scudo one of the three with Binnacle issues so I ended up giving it to him for spares.........
His Van is a pre facelift version and he ended up just swaping over all his bulbs and using it and it works fine and the mileage He "says changed" and appears to be correct to his van.........
The replacement I eventually fitted needed lots of new bulbs as giving the dash a slap brings them on or at least a change of something but again I ended up with no mileage showing for MOT no matter how many times dash got slapped .....
[This kinda brings us up to date MOT wise]
[Speedo on this one is also very intermitant and I'm informed look at speed pick up sensor apparentlly another weak area it may be a fault or cruddy/contaminated connector]
I changed all my bulbs out from a speedo that was damaged in transit but still have bulbs coming and going .........
However I have mileage now, but it shows 84,000 Miles...........
What with next to no use and Lockdown in 2020 and the fact it never really went any where in 2019 it's somewhere now close to 102,000 as it was showing IIRC 98,000 mls on the last mot with miles recorded.......
So Ive no Real idea if mileage is stored in Binnacle or Ecu or where, A friend changed his Binnacle and he said his mileage afterwards was right but his was 1999 preface lift Scudo then ............
It might explain why at IIRC at 8 years old it had something like 40,000 on MOT history and that owner I got it from said he did 42,000 in it over two yrs......
They might have changed Binnacle but it doesn't explain why now it's now at 84,000 ..................

To get Binnicle out ...
I first remove steering column shroud (held on with a couple of torx/star head screws) and I also pull adustment height lever on column.........
Then fresh air vents above radio (also torx screws)
Then there's (in my case) two philips screws that hold Binnicle cover/shroud (at 12 and 2 ish o'clock in front of Binnicle ) this shroud etc extends all the way to over radio hence air vent removal.................
{Dependent whether Binnicle has been removed or not previously or its been replaced there is a fitting I believe accesed from under steering column area it's a PITA to acces by all accounts hence why mine isn't there}..........
The binnicle is held in with 3 torx screws and has two colour coded multi plugs at rear ................
So for me 2 torx screw drivers and a philips ...............
There is some discussion on here IIRC on Binnicle removal
For MPG I use a caculator............
Litres to imperial gallons is something like 4.54 and a spit ........... US gallons is 3.785 and a drip...... I round it to 4 L
for litres to gallons e.g. 45L (I) divided by 4.5 = 10gal ...... in reality 9.89 something g imperial
500 mles divided by 10 = 50 MPG
For gals to litres I multipy gals by 4.5
I've probibly just muddied the waters

Good instructions. Thank you. I need time to digest that info.
Also, can you recommend where the best place to pick up a second hand binnacle for a 2004 1.9L Dispatch?
They tell you these engines can last a life time but fail to state all the common shite bits that come with this van ie binnacle failure, oil in coolant etc.
Hey hoe I'm stuck with her now - gotta see it through and do a little camper conversion and get to see Scotland coast trail in the summer!

I've allways just done a search on eBay or the likes of 1st choice spares ..........
(One of them was allegedly from a Taxi with only 70,000 mls something showing on it if you believe that..... when plugged in it was showing almost 82,0000)..............
{I think that's the one that's in van..... ?}
The broken one came from Lithuania has MPH & kms on dial ......
Never had it near van to be plugged in so no idea of mileage showing or if kms
Sorry can't remember what I last paid for a Binnicle ...........
But the recalibration and postage didn't half up the spend...........
Hence I haven't got round to it yet!....might never.........
Still if it was a repair etc of your own it probibly could be way cheaper than new ............
But when I spoke to the guy on the phone way back when originally about repair...His opinion then was find a good working used.........
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMHO the Dw8 is better than the Hdi because of simpicity............
"Certainly not power output"............
The 2.0L HDI engine is a hardy enough unit its electrical gremlins as time passes that it falls down on............
The 1.6 Hdi again IMHO the engine is not their best effort by far .............
Also Kenbw2 Engine wise has the best of both worlds as it's turbo'd and it being an Xud
The XUD9 even in N/A form has the edge on the Dw8 ...........
"OH" with the DW8 having a plastic rocker cover if you get a leak there they can be a real PITA to stop apparently.........
As Vans go I don't think there that bad..........
And let's face it as a van it's intended {Allegedlly designed} to get worked to death not polished..............
That's just my opinion.........

i always go for around 36psi with a mtb pump, but i am going to try 40psi, because if you let the tiers go below 36psi it feels heavy, so 40psi may help it feel lighter and even more effecient,
once i had a little car, i put a load of air pressure in the tires, i cant remember how much, but i had a theory that if the tires we're rock solid, it would drive around using no fuel.
but after driving offroad, the tires shredded. oops.

I have pumped all my tyres to around 2.6 bar and it appears it has improved the fuel economy.
One thing to think about is the stopping distance. If its over inflated then it will take longer distance or even skid...scary thought really.
Good news..my Dispatch passed its MOT with no advisories so I may treat myself to some of those awesome looking tyres mentioned earlier in this post!
