Brake pipe corrosion (non-specific, but FIAT Scudo 2004 2.0 JTD SX).

Corrosion on brake pipe rear offside. MOT advisory.

Is it permissible to scrape it clean and apply paint (in this case possibly coal-tar varnish), or is paint an MOT problem in itself?

painted brake lines are usually an advisory however it is still a pass.. the brake lines on my van were all covered in grease when i bought it, i cleaned it all off and found them to be in perfect condition.. so i undersealed everything... including the brake lines. somehow they did not incur an advisory on the next MOT.

Words of wisdom: Internally rust proof the sills and subframe! both skins!!. There's always user serviceable parts inside. "Oh that shouldn't have happened".
