Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

I have listed on the spare parts if anyone may have a spare gear knob for a mk 1 Disoatch as mine is literally falling apart.

However my question on here is how to remove it.
It seems that inside the gaiter at the top is a flange.
I have tried hard to unscrew it, thinking it would just be on a thread, but with no success.
Anyone any ideas.
Would be grateful.
Thanks.
Roly.

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

I have tried two cheap universal repacements but neither have lasted long.  They are held on by deep ridges on the stick which look like threads but aren't.  The rubber inserts on the universal ones I tried don't grip very well and soon strip.

I too would be grateful for any recomendation of one that works.

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

I've been frantically supergluing mine every time I see a crack in the soft plastic. It seems to be holding together so far...

Could be something in that.

The ridges that hold it on are only machined on the corners of the square end of the lever.  I would expect the required rotation would be more like 22.5...112.5...202.5 or 292.5 deg.  (the diagonals not the right angles)

What I think happens in reality though is that after much huffing, puffing and random twisting and pulling, it sudenly lets go and you ram it in your eye with your full force.

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

ive replaced a few on our vans, some just come off with a twist and pull, some need a hacksaw cutting strait down in between the 3 and 5 so it just glances off the steel shaft.

you can then replace the knob with whatever you want. however on the HDi with the pull up collar, it can be a little more tricky but its doable.

ima just going to boast here and say that my 106k mile original gear knob is still perfect on my HDi.  monkey

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

ill also quote my post in the pars section here if anyone needs it:

Im not sure on your gearbox type (if it has the pull up collar to engage reverse like my HDi has) but these part numbers should help:

1485925699

1491140689

1493062689

hope this helps!

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

A little late to the party here, but just to say my gearknob revolved and then disintegrated too. I replaced it with a golf ball - drill a 10mm hole about 2/3 of the way through and just ram it on. Works a treat and feels good in the hand. Ahem...

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

Just an update on the disintegrating gear knob. Couldn’t put up with the pvc tape sliding upwards in the heat etc and the glue all over my hand, so bit the bullet and bought an original from Citroen. £42 inc vat ??
I know, but sometimes has to be done. ??
Swung by my local garage and he fortunately used to work at Wyatts Citroen. Asked him how to remove and fit the new one. He came out. Pulled up on the leather skirt which popped off, we cut the cable tie just below the gear knob and he just pulled straight upwards, no twisting and it suddenly popped off. He positioned the new one, gave it a bang on the top and it clipped into place. A new tie wrap round the collar, clip the skirt back into place and good as new.
Expensive, but think the old girl deserved it.

Re: Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob.

Really? £42 doesn't even seem that bad, I'm surprised they still do them!

I might consider this for mine. It's held together with super glue at the moment

Have to say, much nicer than all the glue and tape that was holding it together.
