OBD Bluetooth Adapters

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried any OBD2 Bluetooth adapters?

Anyone got one that actually works?

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

When i was looking for one for my Fiat Stilo i was told to forget it an buy the cables and use an old laptop.

Dont worry if you dont have a Fiat. Pug and Citroen are the same. Apparently if using the Multicuscan software tell if you have a Pug Dispatch as it has more code descriptions. Cant verify that as yet to buy the cables.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

Hi Casper,

Cheers for the info, I was hoping to be able to use a Bluetooth one as running software on my android tablet which is dash mounted.

Used to have an obd Bluetooth in my vw passat, connected to the tablet and it worked great. I've tried it in the pug but seem to have a communication issue.

Might have to look into a usb OBD2 reader that's specifically for the pug?!

VW's seem to be relatively easy obd wise to read so I'm told but also Told by same mechanic that other than generic engine fault codes PSA uses a whole different software and it's not just as accessible so then the costs start to ramp up.

I assume that means there's less choice on the market for PSA software

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

I use this type and it works well with Torque
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291872273137
However as mentioned you will only get the basic codes.
I've also got the lexia pp2000 reader and software but its bulky and you need an xp laptop or a virtual xp image. Tbh its a bit of a faff to get it all setup. I only bought the kit to make some duplicate remote keys.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

Hi tee-cee: Thanks for the information, I want to use it with Torque on my tablet. Might upgrade the head unit to a xtrons android unit to.

I might just purchase one and give it a try.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

That's it, gone and purchased the  xtrons ELM327 Bluetooth ODB2 OBDII Car Auto Diagnostic Scanner Scan Tool ON/OFF Switch. Should arrive by Wednesday next week.

I'll upload a couple of pictures when I've got it all setup and working.

Once again Thanks tee-cee  smile

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

Thanks localfella, now that I have a bluetooth ODB that works I will probably upgrade the stereo for an android type and potentially run a second screen where the tablet currently sits.

Not saying this is a good un just an example but what about a single din pop up?

Look for one with GPS and you can add iGO Primo for free or any of the legal free ones.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

Hi Casper, yeah been looking at the Xtrons range and just found the Pumpkins range:

Just trying to find one at the right price that will do everything I want it to, now and perhaps in the future as the role of the van changes.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

That one is nice. Only things i would want is swivel screen, Onboard GPS and WI FI. Oh and the ability to add rear view camera would be nice. The linked one Has navigation but it looks like it used google maps what is a bit crap. You can run iGO from either SD card or installed but yeah, Nice.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

Casper: I believe that because its running Android you are able to download any navigation app from google play, and it has input for Rear view and comes with on-board WIFI but you can add a 3g dongle if you really wan to.

I think I'm more on the xtrons side myself, the one I like for me looks better and you can add a forward facing camera for recording journeys. Unfortunately I don't think any of them come with a swivel screen for in the Dash though.

Re: OBD Bluetooth Adapters

That is the only think that pots me of these units, lack of swivel. I like to see a screen straight on and if using as a sat nav this would annoy me. At present as i dont use my rear view mirror i have iGO Primo running in an Android phone what sits up on the mirror glass. Got that at the right angle and super glued it in place. Watching the road and a glance at the sat nav as just a quick flick of the eyes.
I do like the add ons you can get for these units though. That forward facing camera in your link. What is the resolution like for the £25? might be worth buying as sometimes these things work out more expensive adding at a later date.
