Rear door lights Mk1 facelift

As the van (2006 MK1 Facelift) is due for MOT I checked the lights today and
found the high level brake light wasn't working and one numberplate light was out

The high level brake light was easy.
One 8mm nut inside the door at the top to remove and the assembly
can easily be removed.
Mine didn't even have a bulb in, which was sorted with a BA15 21W indicator bulb

It took me a wee while to figure out how to get at the numberplate bulbs without breaking stuff as is my wont at times.
I found text but no pics on the subject so took some pics while I was at it

each assembly has a fixed hook on the left and a sprung hook on the right
I used a hacksaw blade to get at the sprung hook to start teasing it out.
Once out they have a white socket holding a capless bulb
I fitted some led types I had to hand in both

Thassit! HTH

Re: Rear door lights Mk1 facelift

Yeah my top one neither works, nor contains any wires or a light fitting.  Last years MOT the guy said to me your top light isn't working, so I was like well throw a new bulb in it, but when he opened it up there was no fitting or wiring going to it.  The numberplate light is something that got flagged up a couple of years back as an advisory.  I haven't fixed it.  Don't intend to either unless they both go or it becomes a major fault.

MOT test manual wrote:

Additional stop lamps, over and above the mandatory requirements, must be tested. However, if you are not sure if they are connected, you should give the benefit of the doubt.

If it works then 3 out of the 5 bulbs need to illuminate. (Well my Synergie has 5 up there).

2 out of 5 illuminating would fail.

0 out of 5 should be given benefit of doubt as to whether it's actually wired up or not. big_smile

With regards to number plate lights, they don't all need to work to pass.

1 working out of 2 or more would just be a Minor fault (advisory in old lingo). Had this on a Jaaag where someone had removed the wiring and holder for the offside bulb. Only found out when I removed the lens to replace the bulb.

0 out of 2 is a Major as is 0 out of 1.

The manual should really just say you need one working lamp.

Re: Rear door lights Mk1 facelift

I have one working light on the numberplate.  I did wonder about blanking the top brake light.  Right now it has a red lens on it, but it could be replaced with a white plastic cover or taped or painted.  The other brake lights work.

So I would fix everything, but I do have to get rid of this van, as much as it pains me.  Just waiting to get another MOT, then this van will go on the usual selling sites.
