Passed a new MOT

I was apprehensive about this year's MOT

I'd always had MOTs at the same place every year because every tester has their own pet favourite things to care about, as well as the rust situation being what it is. Although I spent a huge amount getting the rust addressed last year, it's always been a concern

But this year that wasn't an option and I had to try somewhere new. Which scared me - I don't know how my van would fare with a tester who I don't know how strict they are

I went for a place I've been past a few times, booked it in and explained nothing. The less I explain the better I reckon.

Anyway, I spent the day refreshing the page to see a FAIL. Okay I expected that, let's see how much of the rust has come up

Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):

Rear Brake load sensing valve seized and ABS not fitted or inoperative (1.1.17 (c) (ii))

Repair immediately (major defects):

Registration plate lamp inoperative in the case of a single lamp or all lamps (4.7.1 (b) (ii))
Nearside Front Track rod end ball joint dust cover insecure so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.1.3 (g) (ii))
Nearside Rear Shock absorbers insecurely attached (5.3.2 (a) (i))
Parking brake lever defective so that it cannot be satisfactorily operated (1.1.6 (d))

Wait. Where's the mention of the rust? Holy crap, it's not come up at all! It's there on a couple of advisories. But advisories aren't fails so woohoo!

- The Brake Load Sensing valve has come up on I think all 4 of these vehicles I've had. I ordered a replacement part, but turns out it was able to be loosened up
- The track rod end I (eventually) replaced myself
- The shock absorber just needed a bolt tightening
- And the bulbs was easy of course (except for checking they were working, congratulating myself on a job well done then going inside leaving the lights on overnight and draining the battery  roll )

So I'm well pleased! Not only has the van passed a proper MOT, I've also got a nearby garage I can keep going back to if and when I need to. No more hassle trips to Yorkshire every year

It lives on!
