2003 Jumpy 2.0HDI - Weird gear box issue

2003 Jumpy/Dispatch HDI, bazillion kms. Hydraulic clutch went in the winter, had a new one put in, since then shifting is weird.

Shifting into reverse or first is extremely difficult, I can feel the clutch is not fully disengaged. If I'm in first, with the pedal squeezed all the way down, I can feel it brushing and wanting to creep.

But 2nd/3rd/4th/5th are really fine, match the speeds right and it shifts butter-smooth.

How can the clutch be disengaged for some speeds and not for others?

Possible master/slave cylinder issue on the pedal?

Mine's not hydraulic, but I used to experience this on mine, that it would crunch into reverse. I changed the clutch cable and that was resolved

Re: 2003 Jumpy 2.0HDI - Weird gear box issue

So interesting - what is it about a FWD "sideways" clutch that would make the clutch all the way open for some gears, but not others?

My mental picture of the layout is traditional driveshaft/RWD and clutch/gearbox right near the driver, and I just can't imagine it - if the clutch is fully disengaged, it should be equally easy to get into any gear.

Tomorrow AM hopefully I'll hear something intelligent from the mechanic...
