Hey everyone,
New to forum hoping someone can help with some advise please. Warning came on to fill the Eloy's fluid. Took it to the garage he filled it up and I believe reset the counters. Drove away all good for a few weeks , with very low milage no further warnings. Then I filled up with diesel to the top and after 1km got p1442 and it repeated approximately every km for about 5 times. Then msg again after 15 or 20k. Generic message engine fault repair needed then occasionally a message risk of particle build up or something like.
Anyway it intermittently messaged this 5 times in 5km then 15km. The yellow triangle just flashed and the message came. No permanent triangle.
So garage guy cleaned the electric points erased msg. On the way home it came on after 15km. Then less messaging so the first message coming after 15km. And the last 2 times I drove over 25km no msg. I went another garage he did the diags. Was P1442 again. Did more query on the parameters. Says my fap is in new condition BUT It seems my previous mechanic via diags updated he had changed the particle filter when he only filled up the Eloy's?! I have checked via diagbox the pressure values before and after the filter and for the moment they are in normal ranges at idle and 2500 revs so it's not blocking up too much yet and I have time to sort it. The mechanic has suggested removing fap physically and reprogramming he says I will get better fuel consumption and no more issues but it is illegal. Can this be detected at mot? Why don't mechanics do proper diags these days. Just say need new part or get rid of the fap.
Anyway so I have tested the feed coming into the eloys pump and it only receives 9v ignition on and 10.5v with van running. So kept red of multi meter in the pump plug and touched the chassis for earth and it shows 12.5 v. So problem with the earth right? Can I just create my own earth? So just cut the earth wire in the plug and splice a bit to a part on the chassis nearby? I have tried to find the fuses but Im not sure I got the right one as when I removed them the fuse f4 under bonnet and in front of passenger (only took out one at a time) I was still getting 9v with ignition on. I will do ohms test on pump this weekend but I fear I have to sort this earth wiring issue out anyway.
Never really done any wiring, what is the best way to joung the new earth to the existing pump earth wire then to chassis to avoid problems down the line. Thanks in advance
Marcus
