I went for a Longlife stainless steel exhaust for £300. Seemed worth it since the quotes from WAV specialists were more than double that, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. But the main reason was that I'd hate to have to organise replacement parts when traveling in Europe.
Guess it also depends on how long you're going to keep the van.

they are only shortened with the back box moved forward , its only the downpipe and the front silencer that nead replacing on mine (they have lasted 15 years) the back box is stainless with a 90 degree bend and tail pipe quite simple after fabricating one for my old VWT3 TDI conversion

Well ive got the old one off , surprisingly easy to get too and they use brass nuts at the manifold end (witch makes its a breeze to undo) as at now works out at about 80 notes with fitting kit and all joiners and clamps joining paste,, bought a quality complete front section then shortened it before the silencer by about 2ft section two joiners (stainless) to finish it off ,it will mate up to existing back box and tail pipe (Stainless).
on another point the subframe looks sound and very well undersealed these are good vans I wouldent like to look under a Merc Vito of the same age
