Towing?
I thought my bus was 3500kg but it turns out that is my max allowed load and its more like 2500. I just found today i am plumbed for a trailer just missing the ball. No problem as they are cheap as chips. Now i thinking this will be handy in the height of the summer as we could use two motors and me with the trailer. The trailer has a max load of two Tonne and as i passed my test in 1986 i am allowed to drive up to 7500kg. Now what i dont understand is could that be split? 2500kg motor pulling a max of 2500kg trailer? Ill presume no height as the trailer would be heavier than the motor.
One guy i spoke t says i can drive up to 5500kg combined using my bus yet a wed site i found (parkers) says a combined of 8250kg
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/advice/ow … -capacity/
How can that be if i am only allowed 7500?
Bloody confusing

Yes it can be very confusing and can take a bit of working out .....You need to look at the weight plate on your van/bus/trailer in order to work it out
(3500=gross vehicle weight...5500=gross train weight.....1600= front axle maximum permitted weight...2500= rear axle maximum permitted weight) This is info you need off your van to work out what you can do
..... 3500kg will be gross weight so pay load is 3500kg less weight of van ..... lots get caught out putting 3500kg in back but also remember van + load + you + tank of diesel = Max 3500kg at time of weigh in .....
You are allowed to drive a vehicle with a gross/all up weight of 7500kg...........7500kg - all up weight of van 3500kg= 4000kg on trailer if it can take it and or tow bar..... then axle weights but lets not get over involved.........
So if Parkers says a combined all up weight of 8250kg the van they quoted for must have a Train weight total of 8250kg to allow it to pull a total of 8250kg this figure includes it's own total weight if put on a weight bridge.......
So your man, looks as though he's correct... 3500kg for van + 2000kg for trailer 5500kg doesn't seem far off the mark if he read your plate and it's same as above.
2 tonne gross =2000kg.... you asked 2500+2500 =5000kg..... No but 3500 van + 2000 trailer gross =5500kg is OK (You'll need to check trailer plate also for it's capacities)
........................I used to have a reference manual to work out vehicle and axle weights and it must have been thicker than war & peace............. Hence why YOU see these Lorries with lots of wheels and axles in those heavy haulage jobs...... you can get permissions to go heavier than 44 tons gross that most Artics are but each axle cant go over a certain weight .. so lots of wheels to spread weight and the lorry pulling all this will be subject to it's axle weight also But it needs a massive Train weight in order to pull it all..........
This is and can be a very evocative subject because of how rules are interpreted
An example........ IIRC anything over 3500kg gross capacity should be fitted with a Tachograph....... So it possible to have a big caravan on the back of a Land Cruiser / Range Rover or the likes and be in breach technically of Tachograph rules......... I think I'll leave it there..........................................

So 4100kg over the two axles yet van max is only 3500kg
So my empty van at 2600kg and me running with my max 2000kg filled trailer i still have 900kg storage in the van.
I think

Yes 4100kg is total design weight of axles also gives a little leeway with the fact as you make deliveries the rear gets lighter but can transfer more weight forward or you may put a little more on rear save you walking up and down van as long as total doesn't go over 3500kg and you don't go over individual axle weights.........
i.e 2500kg on rear 1000kg on front= your 3500kg
And yes again van Tare weight 2600kg +900kg pay load = 3500kg + 2000kg gross weight trailer =5500kg Train weight
(Is it a van or a bus still with seats you've got weighting in at 2600kg ?)... 900 seems a bit light......I would have thought a van would be nearer 1500kg give or take 50kg as a payload
Your pug expert's payload would have been around 800kg

Its the Bus Vaz still with its 17 seats. When i went to collect it we were having bother getting tax online. Ended up phoning DVLA who said go to the PO and it will be fine. The seller took me and paid for six month tax what was nice of him. It was just under £95 what i though was cheap so i think the tax for but must only be around the 190-90 quid mark. Shame i could not keep it as a bus as it will be £235 when i get things changes. Apparently its also a class 7 MOT, dont know if more expensive of stringent but if i reduce it to 8 seats i go down to a class 4.
Where you getting 900kg from? That would only be if i pull 2000kg. I can get 16 fat bastards and still be under my 3500kg max (no trailer) Hell they could even take a lunch box

Although the seats are part of the van the weight of those 17 seats eat into your payload, so taking them out will most likely allow you to put camper interior in and stay at much the same weight it is now before the beer and the beans go in...
Yes class 7 it can be more stringent ... but as soon as its called and fitted as a camper it becomes class 4 (same test as a car basically) however if you covert it to a motocross type camper it could be argued it's Class 7..... IE. Available space for a payload............ Your biggest problem, because of size/weight of van is will it fit on a class 4 test ramp........... you may have to go to a class7 station to fit on ramp but would be tested as class 4 as its a motor-home (converted) and not a van/bus for commercial use

By the time you've maxed out van gross and hooked on 2 ton of trailer on the back of a Tranny Banana engine you'll know all about dragging 5 N a half ton up the road and so will the diesel tank

Ladys ladys, please. I have the Duratorq engine. Its a whole 90bhp what i hope to get mapped to 125. Well some site say 125 others say 115 but it should be better mpg and take out the bloody speed limiter.
