need a new engine :(

Head gasket went last week on my 2.0hdi dispatch. Three of the bolt heads that hold the head on sheared off. Any ideas on how to get these out? The garage says that because the flanges haven't broken off, just the hexagonal heads, they can't be drilled out...

Anyone know where I can get an engine?

Thanks ?

Re: need a new engine :(

Jeezo - bad luck.

Can I ask how many miles the engine had done? Were there any signs of problems before it happened?

I guess you need to find out exactly what engine was in there first - the 2.0hdi is one of the DW10 engines I believe - but there are several variants of it I think. DW10ATED, DW10BTED, DW10CTED etc.

After that I guess ebay's a good place to start .. never had to buy an engine though!

So far ...  neutral

Good luck

Re: need a new engine :(

It'd done 127k RHZ engine according to logbook. only had it a month! They're were no signs of it under the water and oil caps. Not using water or oil either. Completely out of the blue!
No joy on eBay but used 1st choice and found an engine for £300 that'd only done 74k. Pity about the old one, it ran well. I'm sure there would have been a specialist company that would be able to drill out the bolts but couldn't find one..

Re: need a new engine :(

I have the RHZ too - but think I'm way up beyond 140k now. Although my mechanic says he's seen some of the taxis go past 300k.

I'd really appreciate updates on your progress with this - £300 for a 74k engine sounds like a decent price.

My van's semi-converted to camper and there's quite a lot of work gone into it, so I've always been curious about the price / process of getting the engine completely replaced if mine went since I couldn't just swap the whole thing out for another van.

Hope it all works out!

So how did it pan out? My head gasket's gone too, think it was caused by overheating. I'm in the same situation but haven't started work yet.

If its only the nut head blown off then once your head is off are there not studs still sticking up? If so use easy outs
