As you may remember the high jinks when The van had a broken spring .................. Here we go again ............
Its the ABS ring that's found to be broken and not a sensor and the subsequent chat with local motor factors of options
1. Don't know what size ABS ring to order (options are 86mm or 90 but not from local motor factors)
2.Don't know how many teeth are on ABS ring (so universal is out)
Easiest option order a CV joint because (ABS ring) it'll be already fitted
The usual questions as before reg ETC ... Specifically order it for the abs as joint on van is good but no longer has the ring as its now fell off
Promptly it's delivered first thing next morning as promised............... but I can't let garage have van on Tuesday.............
So It's agreed that just before lunch Friday the 8th
Anyway drop van of Thursday night and I arrive about 3 in afternoon (Friday) to find van standing on 3 legs
WTF........ Even after the conversation of what was required and taking their option (factors) of a ABS CV joint ................ A non ABS joint is sent and to cap it all nobody has one ...
Garage phones about ....... Nearest in stock is in Carlisle and will be on 2 PM van.............. Which arrives at 3.45 ....... So get van back at 5.15
Anyway it's on and fixed............ But was a close call.......... I told them at about 3.30 to rebuild van with its old CV joint

So they had the part for 3 days but didn't bother checking it?
Sounds like the type of service I often get. It's only in recent years I have resorted to paying to get work done. It is rarely done when they say it will be though. I must look a soft touch or it's how they treat everyone.

What year is your van? I think 2007 and before you can take the ABS system out and throw it in the bin. You need to remove the ABS pump and wheel sensors. On some vans like mine they have an ABS ECU what need to come out but chatting to an MOT man he says no one would go looking for that as they tend to be behind a dash. If you have light issues you are allowed to take the bulb out. Obviously you will need some brake lines made up and possibly two splitters of your master cylinder only has two outlets but all easy DIY jobs. I only found this out after buying a new to me ABS pump

I stressed this point also...........Now to to be fair apart from being a friend of mine who owns the garage, It was the guy who we spoke to at the motor factors that suggested to "Get a ABS CV joint"... Then sends one without ... But your right it should have been given a quick shifty to check, However making maters worse when the van was on three legs I myself picked up the said CV joint to see if it fitted the hub splines and what the fuss was about and never noticed it was without an ABS ring until l was given the full story............It wasn't until they were about to grease up the new joint that they noticed
Anyway job done but the saga continues......... It took a good 50yards for the ABS to catch up with itself and put the light out and reset I guess...........Felling pleased with myself and that jobs attended to I was thinking about a W/end away in van or a good few days at least as this years jolly is on hold. (probably canceled...Health issues)
On the journey back home (15MLS?)........... WTF On leaving I just filled the tank and now the fuel gauge is reading empty.....so Tap Tap Tap on binnacle and fuel gauge is back to full .......... get into town pick up SWMBO while telling her the story go over a speed hump for her to say "the gauge is empty again and why is there NO NUMBERS in the speedo"............... Awe FFS
Got out the Torx screw drivers and the binnacle........ changed a few of the bulbs around and used the couple spare that i had but to NO avail the mileage has gone and the fuel gauge flickers all over the shop (that's if it's even registering)
Some Tell Tale signs that someones been in here before (broken clip that keeps loom tidy on back of binnacle ..screw missing)
I speak to a guy/Co in Stirling that refurbish binnacles..... Seems this is a fault of these as they age ( I'd heard of losing Mileage ) ..... He says these vans are notorious for binnacle issues and not just losing mileage (apparently)........
I'M not happy going any distance without a fuel gauge or a trip meter to keep tabs on how much fuel i have left ...... I've opted to buy another binnacle in the mean time.
which has been fitted and all is working OK
BUT.......... there's always a But
Luckily this binnacle is within 10,000mls of my own mileage............. So do I send it away for a once over and mileage correction along with my MOT that was done for 28th Aug
Or send my own binnacle off for refurbishment
