Buzzing alternator ?

Hi, its been a while since I've posted on this forum   ops  been busy trying to set up my new business lol...  Anyway I have just put my expert through another MOT and after the van sitting a while I had to charge the battery, the problem is  I have to rev the engine to get the battery light to go off, once I stop the revs the light comes back on hmm  the van has also buzzed when you rev it which I've always guessed was the alternator ?  Its done this since I got it about 10,000 miles ago...... Im also thinking about fitting a leisure battery at some point so wondering A: does it sound like my alternator is on the way out
                                         and
B:  If it needed replaced would it be worthwhile upgrading  the alternator  (if possible) from the standard 70 amp one fitted ?

                                                 Thanks Rob...

Re: Buzzing alternator ?

If you get a test meter and put it across the battery terminals (A cheap chinese read out in cig lighter even) on idle and also when you rev it up you should be getting a reading around 13.5 to 14.5 volts anything less than that will effectivly be discharging,........
Which sounds very much like it is or at least struggling to maintain nevermind putting lights ETC. on........

(Dependent how Long/Low battery was discharged, it my be worth getting it tested....... unless youv'e aready noticed it's poor performance)

IIRC a standard Alternator is either a 70 or 80AH ....... our 306 has a 90AH (BTW:- I think you can get a 110AH alternator) as it's fitted with A/C, Foglights and other power hungry goodies (alegedly), The alternator is the  same fitment as they are both DW8's............ But if all your really for doing is a leisure battery the standard fitment should be good enough

This link may be handy......:-   Try your reg in this........ https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/ ........... It gave me 4 power output options a then Something like 14 price options dependend on manufacture or remanufacture.......... The 80AH seemed most cost effective for my van........... and if you do deciced to purchase/price compare remember to add your discount code which usually is found on Home page .................

Re: Buzzing alternator ?

Thanks Vaz   smile   today after bringing the van home the van wouldnt start sad battery dead, jump started it but the battery light on the dash is staying on unless I rev to about 4000rpm,  the light then goes back on when the rpm drops,   I looked at eurocarparts because they have a a coupon which is knocking £40 quid at least of the alternator, just not sure what one I need ?

Re: Buzzing alternator ?

When i looked up there i did a search with my old van reg what i think was the same as yours 1.9D. The options i seen was different brands and different ah ratting. Pick on in your budget.

The deal now is SPRING55 for the same 90ah. Get yer finger out and fit it yer self and save 60 quid
