Scudo 2007 headlights randomly activating

Hi fellow Scudo owners.

After running a 2003 Expert 2l diesel into the ground and spending a fortune on a top end rebuild I just had to have something similar and preferably with the same engine.

So I bought a superb looking 2007 long wheelbase "panoramic" 8 seater. Unfortunately I then discovered that the headlights would come on at random times which was very irritating to other drivers, most of whom thought I was flashing them for some reason.
After Googling as we all do it seemed like a fairly common fault. Next step search for a new switch. Some were extremely expensive (I thought) while others mainly on eBay seemed reasonable. I was about to order one but thought I'd see if there was anything I could do beforehand. Anyway it struck me that because the fault could also be triggered by operation of the indicators on the same stalk I might be able to effect a cure, even a temporary one.
My attempts to get at the switch gubbins to take it apart proved unsuccessful. However I did manage to get the thin tube on a can of WD40 somewhere near it and gave it a good old squirt. After I'd soaked it I then moved the flasher stalk up and down rapidly for about a minute and gave it another dose of magic liquid. I'm happy to report that it worked a treat and I'm writing this in November 5 months later, the problem hasn't come back yet. Maybe worth trying if you have this issue?
One advisory note here - one of the eBay sites I almost bought a new switch cluster from had what looked like the correct item but it lacked the stubby little radio stalk at the 4 o'clock position that mine had, so beware buying if you can't see a decent shot of it online for confirmation, whatever the seller claims.

I share the general frustration that there's no workshop manual for this model, really bizarre.
