First trip out (non camping) trip

Some of you may remember that I bought Monkeynuts' old Scudo last year. Over the last few months I've been spending a little time (what little I have) sorting out some of the MoT issues, weatherproofing and re-lining.

However, up until now, I'd not driven it more than a couple of miles to the MoT station and back.

Well this weekend was something different. I've declared that I've completed phase 1 (mechanics done, weatherproofed, vinyl flooring, seats 're-upholstered', sides ply-lined & covered) so I decided to see how it travelled before I spent much more time and effort on the camper side of things.

A 130 mile round trip over the North Yorkshire Moors sorted that. I was so surprised at how comfortable the drive was, admittedly the clutch was heavy and the non-turbo 1.9D hasn't got much top end but at 50-60 it was bimbling along quite nicely and the seat position and ride were great.

Bring on Phase 1a - camp beds, inflatable mattresses and blackout blinds before phase 2 (full on bed and furniture setups).

Here's what the van currently looks like - including frosted rear quarter window and heath robinson roof rails

Re: First trip out (non camping) trip

Oh aye, forgot about that van. I got my 1.9D up to 90 once. Ill grant you it was a large hill on the A1 and all i can say is dont, just dont as it was not fun. Took it down the Black Forrest and was getting pushed up hills by artic's but it was a great wee van what would just run no matter what was thrown at it. Had it been an extra couple of foot in the back i may still have had it today.

Hasn't got much bottom end either! But it does the job well enough.

Nice to see you had a good trip, they're a nice size for this sort of thing. Big enough to have plenty of space while being small enough to nearly treat like a car.

I love getting out in my van.
Great driving position, quite happily drive all day in it.
